EARLY WEDNESDAY, delivering his victory speech in Chicago, President Obama elevated an issue that had hardly come up during the campaign. “We want our children to live in an America,” he said, “that isn’t threatened by the destructive power of a warming planet.”
Later that day, Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters that climate change is an important issue and that he wants to “address it reasonably” — particularly following big storms in the Northeast that have highlighted rising sea levels and other dangers associated with global warming.

A tax on carbon ….. is the best plan lawmakers can take off the shelf to fight global warming.
There can be little doubt that raising US taxes during a deep recession will end the 20,000 year long rise in sea level, and prevent future hurricanes from intersecting with cold fronts.

never mind the first written account of an hurricane was in 1494 by good old Christopher Columbus. with that fact alone, unless my teachers were lying, oil has not been discovered yet.
They were lying. There are historical references to oil seeps for nearly as much time as humans have been recording history.
The despot of the UN is also asking for a carbon tax, so the sheep who have been fed so much propaganda, who can not separate fiction from fact, who see what these despots want them to believe, will follow them down the path to serfdom.

With the House still in Republican hands and with filibuster power in the Senate, the chance of a carbon tax passing is very close to zero.

A carbon tax will do nothing at all because there is no economical technological alternative to carbon. The experiment has already been run on the economy (rise in oil prices) and the drop in consumption was marginal. This is because there is very little discretionary spending on energy use.
Let’s hope they ban diamonds.
If you assume that CO2 raised the temperature of the upper 700m of ocean from 289.05K to 289.75K, then the energy added is 74 gazillion (a warmist term for 10E+22) Joules. That means the total thermal energy available from the upper ocean has risen from 30,605 to 30,679 gazillion Jules (1/4 percent). Thus a cyclone during James Garfield’s campaign would only be 99.76 % as powerful as Sandy.
To get a carbon tax, the House would have to go along – no way. The Senate would have to have 60 votes and there are several Democrats who will vote against a carbon tax – no way.
Not quite true. The Senate cannot filibuster a tax bill. Even with that, ‘Dingy’ Harry Reid is going to change the filibuster rules (anyone remember the nuclear option from GWBush’s years? Well, it is back).
Nor can they filibuster a budget, once it gets presented. That’s why Reid won’t allow a budget bill to proceed, despite the fact that the law requires it.
