Winter Storm Warning issued January 27 at 4:41AM PST until January 29 at 4:00AM PST by NWS

…WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 AM MST TUESDAY… THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PUEBLO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 AM MST TUESDAY.

LOCATION…THE EASTERN SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS…INCLUDING WOLF CREEK AND CUMBRES PASSES…AND THE LA GARITA MOUNTAINS ABOVE 10000 FEET..

CAUSE AND TIMING…A PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE GREAT BASIN AND BRING MOIST SOUTHWEST WINDS TO THE REGION. SNOW WILL INTENSIFY SUNDAY EVENING AND IT WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY.

SNOW ACCUMULATION…TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 FEET ARE LIKELY BY EARLY TUESDAY IN THE EASTERN SAN JUANS…AND ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 14 INCHES IN THE LA GARITA MOUNTAINS.

WIND…SOUTHWEST AT 15 TO 25 MPH.

IMPACT…TRAVEL WILL BE HAZARDOUS DUE TO A COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW…BLOWING SNOW…POOR VISIBILITIES AND ICY…SNOW COVERED ROADS. AVALANCHE DANGER WILL BE CONSIDERABLE AND POSSIBLE ROAD CLOSURES SHOULD BE ANTICIPATED.
