Obama Tones It Down From Previous Democrats

President Obama predicts seven feet of sea level rise by 2100.

This might seem slightly aggressive, but is toned way down from previous Democrats who predicted 10 feet of sea level rise and seven degrees warming by 2000.

Daniel Patrick Moynihan Warned Nixon To Act On Global Warming, New Documents Show

Adviser Daniel Patrick Moynihan, notable as a Democrat in the administration, urged the administration to initiate a worldwide system of monitoring carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, decades before the issue of global warming came to the public’s attention.

There is widespread agreement that carbon dioxide content will rise 25 percent by 2000, Moynihan wrote in a September 1969 memo.

“This could increase the average temperature near the earth’s surface by 7 degrees Fahrenheit,” he wrote. “This in turn could raise the level of the sea by 10 feet. Goodbye New York. Goodbye Washington, for that matter.”

Well, blow me down … (as Popeye would say)

That is freaking hilarious: they’re inferring that Moynihan should be praised for having the foresight to alert Nixon about global warming. Presumably they were too idiotic to realise how wrong he was.

They still do the same for Ehrlich, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised; it doesn’t matter how spectacularly wrong you are, as long as your warning is meant to “save the planet”, and said warning is really scary.

Funny how “above trend” seems to be a good thing in the US.
Obama is above trend on global sea level predictions, US debt levels, US unemployment levels, US fed spending levels, global e-data capture levels, US government corruption levels and on most other US government metrics you’d care to mention. :D

They can put out all the reports they want, they are the same failed predicitons that have been around for at least 45 years. But we reward failure in this country with more grant money and more “studies” that all include a predetermined outcome.

  4. KevinK says:

Well… That whole “Goodbye Washington” outcome does have some appeal….

    Cheers, Kevin

This is an *outstanding* post, and it should serve as something we should link to on our comments and blogs and facebooks elsewhere on the web.

Now listen to Rush Limbaugh here:

“Goodbye, Washington, for that matter,” by the year 2000. That’s 14 years ago. In 1970, Nixon was told we gotta act now or by 30 years from now, in 2000, New York City’s gone, Washington’s gone, and we’re gonna have temperature raise of seven degrees! There’s nothing that has changed. There’s nothing new. The predictions are the same. They never come true. All these predictions of doom and gloom and destitution never come true.

Man, that sounds familiar. Who does Rush sound like? Lol.

    • Jim says:

      “…New York City’s gone, Washington’s gone…”

I did not fully fathom the benefits of global warming.

Electioneering 101: scare the people about a common “enemy” to get them to vote for you.
