Norweigans Misplace A Big Chunk of Ice

NORSEX lost a big piece of Arctic ice today. Enough to place 17,000 Manhattans on. At current loss rates, the Arctic will be ice free by next week.

JAXA shows ice increasing. At current rates ofย  increase, the world will be covered with ice within 10 years.

    At least now they’re both showing around 5 million km2 of 15% extent. Seriously, what accounts for the huge difference that has prevailed between the two estimates (until this apparent computer glitch intervened.)

    Talking of Norwegians, looks like they may actually be able to make the first circumnavigation this year after all, they are making very good progress currently.

    They’ve replaced their graphs with a message now: “!!!!!!!!Error in the satellite data on September 13th. 2010 result in a spurious drop in the values for the ice area and extent. The error will be corrected soon – meanwhile the plots are suspended!!!!!”

    Meanwhile, DMI shows a drop to minimal level again, and the JAXA graph is also pointing down again. Maybe it’s still too early to declare this year’s minimum?
