Scientists Discover That Bears Can Adapt By Themselves

Amazing what animals can do. Apparently they aren’t as clueless as 30% of the human population.

  1. Mike Davis says:

Polar bears Quickly evolved from Brown Bears so they are a Genetic Mutant rather than a true animal species. Actually a sub sub species. I have not figured out if Grizzlies are Brown Bears or a separate Sub Sub Species.
The claim that Polar Bears evolved 1 million years ago provides evidence of their adaptability to many climate conditions.
It might be better to say they can adapt to long term weather patterns and being in the high latitudes they would have experienced the most extreme weather patterns of the entire globe. Permafrost Tundra and Boreal forest are evident in Polar bear territory

  2. Myron Mesecke says:

So are seals going to disappear if brown bears move into the Arctic? And maybe the Polar bears only eat seals because that is the only meat in the Arctic? There certainly aren’t any berries growing on the ice.
And if the Polar bears evolved quickly once is there some reason they can’t do it again?

  3. Leon Brozyna says:

    Scientists are warning…

That’s my cue to tune out. Same as with politicians, journalists, & lawyers … tweaking the facts of reality (AKA – lying) to put themselves in the best possible light.

  4. Lazarus says:

Steve, ALL organisms can adapt by themselves.

Can to put a figure on on how long this “extremely rapid evolution” took?

Did you realise they were talking about rapid in purely evolutionary terms?

    • Mike Davis says:

      Lazarus:
      And your point is?
It appears that most of the other commenters realize it is by average evolutionary standards. Do you realize that polar bears are a sub species and not a separate species.
Was there any point in making a meaningless comment?

      • Lazarus says:

I fail to understand your point. You seem to know as little about taxonomy and evolution as you do about the climate.

Steve made a point less observation – ALL organisms can adapt by them selves – My point was pointing this out.

Do you realise that all species are a subspecies among the phyla?

And in case you are wondering what my point is this time it is pointing out your apparent ignorance.
