Planet warms up to a record
January 22, 2011
LAST year was equal to the hottest on record and the amount of sea ice in the Arctic shrank to the lowest level ever observed in December, the World Meteorological Organisation has confirmed.
The 10 warmest years since modern measurement began in 1850 have now all occurred since 1998.
The Queensland floods were cited by the organisation, along with those in Pakistan and the Russian heatwave, as among a high number of extreme weather events across the world in 2010.
