“The world is now cooling.”

Piers Corbyn, of the long range forecaster, Weather Action, predicted more cold winters and cool summers. “In the winter reservoir levels will be low but they will probably pick up in the summer because we will have more rain. There will be regional differences because it will depend on where the high pressure might be.”

Mr Corbyn said the conditions had “nothing to do with global warming”, and he added: “The world is now cooling.”

He said: “It is changes in the position of the jet stream caused by changes in solar activity and lunar modulation.

“It is low solar activity but there are very specific lunar modulations which cause the jet stream to get stuck in certain ways, one of which is to give cold northerly blasts in the winter.”

Funny Eh, what Mr Corbyn can do with a laptop computer that the Met office and the others pushing this AGW can’t do with a super computer! I guess there is something lost here in the interpretation of data or the fix is programmed in, or a combination of both?

    • Nick says:

So,what is it that Piers can ‘do with a laptop’,Russ? Make unsupported statements about the climate? Don’t you want to see his data and code? Any idea how much help he gets from UK Met?

      • Russ says:

Too funny he got it right Eh! Can’t say the same about the Met even if he did get his info from there! Now what does that tell you!

      • Russ says:

Maybe there is a bigger can of worms to be opened and the blame is to be pointed at else where acording to you, So if it isn’t the super computer because that is where you claim Piers got his info from and it can’t be from people working there. Because they wouldn’t dare want to look bad again, then it must be from?

  2. Michael says:

Don’t get too “Hot” about global climate predictions made by people who can’t differentiate between “global” and “local” or “weather” and “climate”. The Global climate is still warming. As a result Local weather will become more extreme. Hotter summer some places, cooler winters other places; and more extreme storms of all kinds. Droughts here, floods there. Pay your money and take your choice. EVEN (look up the term “Climatic Flip-Flop”) possibly glaciation in places. Particularly if cold melt water from the Arctic diverts the Gulf Stream away from Europe.
Forget “modelling” and “prediction”. It’s a new ballgame.

    • It's always Marcia, Marcia says:

The Global climate is still warming.

You made this claim but did not provide evidence.

‘Climate flip flop’, a new iteration in global warming. You just cannot decide what to call your religion, can you. You people have filth in your minds.

    • Bruce says:

Yep it is warming….veewy veewy sloooowly.

2XCO2 of 0.6 C gives about 0.1 C/century of CO2 caused warming, which slightly more than offsets the normal cooling rate going into the next ice age.

At about 0.05 C/century left over warming by CO2 it clearly justifies taxes on all fun, profit and breathing don’t you agree?

      Michael,

should I listen to your propaganda or Piers Corbyn’s 85% accuracy record? I know which.

      • Michael says:

I’m summarizing the research of around 800 proven scientists that has been published and critically reviewed for 100 years. Not my own propaganda. I don’t know Piers, nor the site publishing. I’m sure they are good sincere people. Propaganda, by the way, is used to sway people to your vested interests. I have no vested interests. I gain or lose nothing, and facts are not changed, by other peoples beliefs.
I’ve been trying to correct what appears to be unfounded information. Unfortunately what we believe about the matter does not change the world.

and more extreme storms of all kinds.

You are now covering every possible event. You say everything will always be caused by global warming, even record cold and record snow cover extent. Now, no matter what happens in weather you can say you predicted it. You could even say that if the earth was covered in snow it was because of global warming.

      • Michael says:

No. But I assume you’re using hyperbole to make a point. Not “everything is caused by global warming” nor “if the world is covered with snow”. What I said is that warming the tropical oceans causes more evaporation. Global wind patterns being what they are the extra moisture is carried to the poles and precipitates out (some getting dumped on high mountains along the way). At the moment (geologic moment) we are in the middle of a cycle.
The zones along the interfaces of climate (temperate zones) are being subjected to greater activity. “Temperate zone” is something of a joke. That’s temperate on the average. Like the first year in South Dakota we had 5 months of snow and wind chills down to -70F; then that summer it reached 110F. BUT on the average it was quite pleasant.

      • Michael says:

Small correction – it’s 30 years environmental research, through universities. Twenty years in the Caribbean and 10 in South America, for national and international groups. “Climatic flip-flop” isn’t new. It was being discussed in the 1990s; published in 1998. Woods Hole Oceanographic and both Danish and Swedish researchers have been monitoring the Arctic and North seas, watching the progress. Glaciation is no longer thought to take thousands of years, but possibly to occur in decades.

Believe as you will. Our beliefs in the long run don’t matter.

Nothing about the weather or climate is getting more extreme.

That’s why they call them hundred year floods and events Michael.

    • It's always Marcia, Marcia says:

      • latitude says:

        It rained today………

If it had rained only a little, it would be because global warming is causing a drought, and we can expect it to get worse.

If it had rained a lot, it would be because global warming is melting the Arctic, putting more moisture in the air, making the jet stream dip further south, and we can expect it to get worse.

Trouble is that these 100 year events seem to be coming along every few years. (100 year event – most over hyped/used expression lately)
However, like Piers Corbyn I blame this on the internet.
i.e. instant worldwide communications mean that more “extreme events” are being reported than there was pre – internet age.

    • Russ says:

Exactly, that is why Engineers engineer things to those 100 year events. But what happens, The political powers to be will believe someone else and take the cheaper route, and then later blame it in AGW to get out of their wrong doings and to collect more taxes for what they want. But that is my opinion on it. Also don`t believe all the enginereing reports, be SKEPTICAL of those too, put out to tenders and get as many offers as you can on that tender.

      • latitude says:

        correct

I’ve lived through a 3 year flood, hurricane, a super cell tornado, and 2 blizzards; all of which exceeded the 100 year records; all during the last 15 years. Admittedly, we are keeping more and better records now. Maybe they were as severe before but no one recorded it. Time will tell.

      • Mike Davis says:

        Michael:
A Hundred year flood does not mean it will only happen every hundred years.
I have lived through 100 year floods in the region I lived in and they occurred about every 4 or 5 years. The only thing that changed through the years was the people living in at risk locations increased. All of the events you describe were related to an event that happened at some time before you were even born so you have just experienced “Normal” weather patterns!
If you want to be believable stop confusing weather and climate.
The Thermohaline is supposed to shift and does to a certain extent every so often. There is evidence it has shifted many times in the past and there are many WAGs about why it shifted. It WILL shift and may shift dramatically at some point in the future. A BUS may run over you at some time in the future also or a Polar Bear may fall out of the sky at crush you. Your house may explode because of a gas build up or a tree could fall on you!

Don’t get too “Hot” about global climate predictions made by people who can’t differentiate between “global” and “local” or “weather” and “climate”.

Go to Google news and search for “Pakistan floods” or “Australia floods” and you will see plenty of erroneous claims about climate when these are just weather events. Me thinks you are utterly deluded.
Read and learn. Weather is not climate

    Russian Heatwave & Pakistan Floods
NOAA said on 13 August 2010
“…greenhouse gas forcing fails to explain the 2010 heat wave over western Russia. The natural process of atmospheric blocking, and the climate impacts induced by such blocking, are the principal cause for this heat wave.”

What is lunar modulation of the weather? Is there a good scientific explanation to what Piers is claiming?

    Andy

    • Mike Davis says:

      Andy:
Have you ever heard about a thing called “Tides”!
Is there a good “SCIENTIFIC” explanation for that phenomena?

    • Michael says:

Not really. And forget “tides”. Tides are effects of the gravitational pull of the sun and moon on the earth. The oceans are most obvious, the atmosphere is next, and the magma lest well known. Piers is talking about the courses of the jet streams; which are most affected by areas of heating and cooling, the earth’s rotation, and the heat-sinks in the oceans.
The jet streams are very important in local weather patterns, but not on total global heating or cooling; except possibly in a second order way. Ocean current, like the Gulf Stream or the Humboldt Current, are the same, but more extreme.
Global heat balance effects the ocean currents and the jet streams, which in turn has an effect on weather patterns. The weather in South Dakota is often severe and extreme; but the climate is North Temperate.
      Anyway, the answer is “No”.

      • Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

Your babbling needs to be flushed now. Hold the handle down too to make sure it’s thoroughly gone. Spray the Glade air freshener afterward.

  13. Michael says:

I’ve got another idea! Let’s shoot off on a real tangent.
-The Arctic mass is almost all ice.
-The Antarctic mass is almost all land, a continent (that once has forests).
The earth rotates at, roughly, 18,000 mph an the waters pool toward the equator (which hasn’t always been the equator) and everything, land, water, air is spinning around at the same high rate of speed.
-Arctic ice is melting and becoming water; thus tending to flow south and leaving much less mass at the North Pole.
-Antarctic ice is melting too, but the huge land mass remains.
*What if the earth becomes (more) unbalanced and leans over?
-The continents will keep moving about the same rate of speed; but inertia will make the “loose stuff”, water, air, magma try to keep going in the old direction (at about 18,000 mph)
    What happens?
While we’re arguing about things out of our control let’s worry about that instead.

  14. Michael says:

You know; this is really boring. If you want to believe the world climate is not changing, feel free. Deny the 100 years research, the reputable scientists who have published their work. No one wants to make anyone believe what they don’t want to believe.
By the way-I didn’t say it was “un-natural”, just that it is changing. Change is natural.

Michael? One mean Amino Acid runs you off? Its too bad, perhaps you could have learned something. One of the base tenets of climate skepticism is that the world and climate is always changing. And always had. You pointed out these changes. If you desired something other than a tedious exchange, you probably shouldn’t have started out by criticizing something you don’t understand with an obviously errant assertion. A quick Google of Corbyn would imply an ability to differentiate between global and local. Astrophysicists typically can. Whether you agree with his methodologies or not, Piers kicks the Met’s arse on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis and has done so for years. It is so humorous, yet sad to see people so fooled by the claim that x number of scientists believe in this or that, so therefore it much be correct. (eg: 2500 scientists support the theory of global warming). Here is a quote from the Encyclodedia Brittanica. All I can say is, produce the facts that global Warming is man made and has no other cause. Produce the facts that man can control the weather. Until then all these Global Warming promoters are just a bunch of cranks.

The rising Nazi movement found a convenient target in relativity, branding it “Jewish physics” and sponsoring conferences and book burnings to denounce Einstein and his theories. The Nazis enlisted other physicists, including Nobel laureates Philipp Lenard and Johannes Stark, to denounce Einstein. One Hundred Authors Against Einstein was published in 1931. When asked to comment on this denunciation of relativity by so many scientists, Einstein replied that to defeat relativity one did not need the word of 100 scientists, just one fact.
