Unforunately for them, the alarmists have been around long enough to have a track record for their predictions. That record has been far from sterling, to put it mildly.
That is a good prediction for future temperatures. A “SMALL” range of 2 to 30 degree warming. The only better prediction they could have made was claiming a range from -30 to +30.

Well they are capable of determining the average global temperature 1000 years ago to .01 degree, so…how could anyone doubt them?
They also found those three magic pine trees in the western US that are teleconnected to droughts in Australia, floods in Pakistan, and coral growth in the Bahamas. Amazing really if you think about it!

They may very well STILL have missed the mark! I would bet we won’t even see 2F of warming over that 100 year time frame. In fact, we may very well see a net cooling over that period.
The track record of the climate change charlatans proves that they just stick their finger in the (flatulent) wind and make it up as they go.
1988 — about one decade after the latest AMO warming cycle began — was the year James Hansen testified in front of Congress and started the CAGW hysteria cult.
The latest AMO warming cycle began in about 1978 and ended in about 1998.

I notice that the Nature article gets its excuses in early to cover up the oncoming cooling. It looks like AGW is going to predict the cooling, too.
Oh, come on folks, no fair. This is an unattributed, undocumented sentence from an issue of pop music magazine Spin [which incidentally offers a “free condom inside”]. “Researchers” at DOE “estimate” whatever. Sounds like lazy journalism to me (like, uh, making stuff up), plus we have no idea what the anonymous staff writer was smoking at the time.
You could say that a general climate of hysteria contributed to this quote, but it’s only good for a laugh. Why not use real quotes from real alarmists instead? There are plenty I’m sure.

Are you saying that someone who “predicts” up to a 30F temperature rise is NOT an alarmist? What would that person be? Certainly not a conservative.
All I’m saying is that a possibly drug-addled rock journalist may have made up these numbers–there’s no proof that real DOE or any other researchers supplied them.
True enough. I don’t know any DOE report from 1988 that makes that claim.
The only DOE report in 1988 on the topic that I know of is one I wrote on assignment. I concluded that AGW had been repeatedly been debunked since 1910, did not need to be debunked again, and should never be used for any energy policy at all because AGW was wrong.
Hansen had the opportunity to upstage me before the Congress and the reason he had the opportunity was a 1987 El Nino that caused a lot of summer heat across the Great Plains. Had that not occurred Hansen would never be in front of the Congress.
Hold on. Neither I nor the article claims DOE said anything like a 30 degree rise. The article says, “Other estimates range as high as 20-30 degrees.” I only pointed out that WHOEVER said that should be considered an alarmist. Geesh.
They should have thought of that in Germany during the 1940s.
Other than some of the women’s hairstyles (and the length of Basketball shorts), it looks like 1988=2011, especially in the area of crappy climate science.
