Maybe that’s why the Met Office made no such claim? Rather, they posted to debunk the “record” claim made in the Daily Telegraph.

Note once again the debunking by the Met Office: also the absence of any claim that the record applies to “spring” as a whole.
Really, Steven, you must learn to verify your sources better.
The Telegraph made no such claim. That was Met Office verbage.
Ellis is sadly correct, Steve. They did announce via their mouthpiece the BBC that April, so far, is the hottest ever (Helen Willets I think) but not Spring. I suspect that as always the numpties in the media decided to misrepresent that report for their own sales figures.
