CNN Shock News : The Arctic Is Frozen!

(CNN) — It’s the world’s last, great wilderness rich in natural resources, like oil and gas.

But now the frozen seas of the Arctic are being opened up; its vast riches unlocked.

The Yamal is one of Russia’s biggest, most powerful icebreakers, and one of the few ships in the world capable of cutting through the thick Arctic pack ice.

It does it for one reason: to clear a path for other vessels, so they can take advantage of the frozen Arctic.

Escorted by icebreakers, cargo ships and oil tankers crossing the Arctic can shave thousands of miles off a journey between Asia and Europe, saving fuel, and vastly reduce their carbon emissions.

Captain of the Yamal, Alexander Lembrik says the Arctic’s untapped potential is the reason behind the dramatic increase in maritime traffic.

gee, I wonder if all that “opening up” and wind has anything to do with it……………

  2. Andy Weiss says:

Isn’t the Arctic ice-free? Can’t you cross it by rowboat?

  3. suyts says:

Must be a misprint. CNN seems to be implying that the arctic is icy n stuff. Can’t possibly be true. Some one needs to tell the warmistas that CNN isn’t repeating the party line/mantra.

  4. pwl says:

The “Yamal”? Very ironic name for a ship in a climate science story about the frozen arctic. Even more ironic that the ship is a Russian Icebreaker, , at that! Yamal, the ship, impressive, most impressive.

Yamal, the most important tree in the history of Earth?

Yamal ignored and hidden from view, can’t see the decline in the Yamal:

    Love it… [:)]

  5. pwl says:

With all the CO2 Climate Doomsday Soothsaying and the Hiding Of the Decline by the expert MANNipulator Team Members, it’s iconic that “Yamal” means “End of the Land” in the Nenets language. End of the Land indeed, all the fantasized Sea Level Rise from the Melting Arctic, Greenland and Antarctic Ice would end the need for the Nuclear Powered Yamal Ice Breaker as well. Oh, no the Yamal is nuclear powered! Ah, Global Nuclear Meltdown of the Ice! Ahhhhh!!!!

Damn, gotta love the Russians, they have no fears building nuclear powered craft or nuclear batteries. When will western countries get some nuclear sized balls? Canada needs a nuclear powered Ice Breaker! The Russians are taking their Arctic claims seriously, nuclear powered ships. That’s a serious commitment and very smart, don’t want to run out of fuel in the frozen Arctic in really thick multi-year ice when the ships you’re guiding through hulls could get crushed like a package of chips.

  6. Sparks says:

Breaking up the Arctic ice to reduce their carbon emissions. Is it the same carbon emissions that is said to be melting the Arctic ice? I’m confused!!

  7. Charles Higley says:

The NOrthern Passages have been open 72 of the last 112 years. So, what is new here?
Oh, back in 1905, they could sail wooden ships through there, but we all know it is warmer now, right?

  8. Wes M. says:

NO WAY! The Arctic is frozen? You jest. Surely you jest!

Next thing you’re going to tell me is that there’s a time of the year when it gets hot and a time when it gets cold! /sarc
