Surface temperatures in the Arctic since 2005 have been higher than for any five-year period since record keeping began in 1880, according to a new report from the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program, an international group within the Arctic Council that monitors the Arctic environment and provides advice on Arctic environmental protection.

The University Of Alaska is forecasting a record late ice break-up in Barrow this year.

It took me a few minutes, but out of curiosity I looked at weather station readings in Alaska and found that the Barrow station showed a temperature rise of 8 degrees since 1977. It was by far the largest. Then I located the station itself with google map, and lo and behold it sits between two runways in the middle of the airport, just feet from jet engine exhaust, on both sides.

    Can we please rediscover UHI?
