Antarctic Ice Sheet Collapse Imminent

Looking at the autumn weather report, it becomes clear why Hansen keeps incoherently mumbling something about Antarctica melting down.

    …feels like: -110F

  2. Spring hath sprung. Oh, wait, it’s fall down there. The whole accursed ice-sheet must be mostly melted by now.

    It’s Autumn (Fall) down here.

The Antarctic and the SH are going into a full meltdown. 🙂

NZ has had a mild Autumn overall so far. It’s been getting colder now with morning frosts in some places .Some of those frosts have so far been -6 to -8C in parts of the South Island.

Parts of South Island and the Lower Central North Island Plateau had their first snow of the season last week.

    First snow: winter 2012:

The south awoke to its first snowfall for winter 2012 on May 16.

First snow of 2012 hits Queenstown:

First snow of 2012 at Mt Ruapehu:

I can’t believe it. The day has come!
    Hell is to freeze over.

  5. Lance says:

dew point -116? at that temp they should be just about equal….i seem to recall we removed the wix at around -37..been a few years since I did this though.

  6. NoMoreGore says:

Ahhhhh, collapse at last! Oh wait, we’re supposed to celebrate when civilization collapses.
    I keep getting it wrong.

  7. According to IPCC AR4, Antarctica is supposed to gain surface mass because of increased atmospheric humidity levels. (Thus more snowfall over the continent.)

According to lone voices echoed by the media: Changes in Antarctica will lead to sea level rise.

According to the IPCC: Changes in Antarctica will lead to sea level decline.

Needless to say, though, the IPCC speculation hasn’t happened either. There is no evidence of any recent surface mass gain on the continent. That’s probably because they has been no measurable increase in atmospheric humidity either.

Hey all, I was thinking that this comment I did at wuwt today could be on topic for this Vostok post… sort of, because I talk about an iceberg, and here we have temps breaking -110°, iceberg city! I think it’s important that conservatives start to act like a unified block on this issue, so my comment:

    An Iceberg in the Room
Its gone and happened. There is an iceberg that’s suddenly taking up half the space of this climate change debate, and this iceberg is crunching against the wall in some spots. That iceberg… is conservative opinion against AGW theory.
An earlier Pew poll showed only 19% of Republicans believed in man-made global warming. Adding to an increasing sense that this Pew poll result is no fluke, is a new poll showing only 17% of conservative Canadians (voted for the Tories) “are concerned” about global warming:–new-poll-says-global-warming-is-not-a-major-environmental-concern
And if you understand the dynamic behind this overwhelming conservative rejection of the scare-mongering Chicken Littles, you know that this iceberg is not going to melt. The leftists who support the warmist agenda will continue doing what they normally do, acting as if this massive iceberg is not there. They’ll duck beside and underneath the ice, squeeze in and out, and continue like mindless robots repeating their never ending proclamations of doom. And they will occasionally make reference to how “conservatives are resistant” to their persuasions, but eventually they’ll have to recognize that this iceberg is not going away. Indeed, the iceberg will only grow, and start to impart its coldness for the AGW theory to others, like independents, the media, a lot of Democrats (surprise!), and beyond the American shores.

Will, could you point us to the where in the IPCC docs they state what you have indicated??? The modelers are still sulking because the temp amplification their models show hasn’t happened down there!!

Oh, there HAS been an increase in surface mass. Y’all need to get out more.

  10. Latest studies indicate no surface mass gain trend, sorry. See:

Here is what the IPCC says:

Not completely poles apart – summer approaches in Svalbard

  12. Blade says:

    But it’s a dry cold.

  13. Andyj says:

Just a few degrees more and CO2 will become even more seasonal. Maybe potentially seasonally dangerous to be in the Antarctic if it thaws back into the atmosphere on a calm day.
CO2 freezes at sea level pressure at -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit (-78.5 degrees C)

Top Scientists Vent on NASA’s Sub Prime Greenhouse Gas Hoaxer

    Author // John O’Sullivan

Climatologist James Hansen is under sustained attack accused of global warming fraud at a time when the powerful science journal, Nature admits “research is riddled with systematic errors.”

The Nature article (May 9) marks a defining critical moment as a slew of top scientists openly attack climate activist, Professor James Hansen, the head of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Science (GISS). Since the 1980′s Hansen has been at the forefront of claims that human emissions of carbon dioxide are “catastrophically” warming our planet. For his ceaseless alarmism Hansen has been named and shamed by, among others, the U.S. Government’s premier extreme weather expert, Martin Hoerling (of sister U.S. Government agency, NOAA) who calls Hansen’s science “patently false” and “policy more than it is science.”

As Nature states, “Alarming cracks are starting to penetrate deep into the scientific edifice.” Although the article baulked at naming and shaming Hansen, the beleaguered spokesman of climate alarmism nonetheless immediately rushed to defend himself in an OpEd in The New York Times (May 10). But Hansen was then summarily shot down the following day when a damning set of doctored graphs was released implicating him as fraudster-in-chief of the U.S. and global temperature records – all perpetrated while Hansen was pocketing millions for his sub-prime science.

    • LLAP says:

@Lat: Excellent find! I can only hope this is the beginning of an avalanche that will sweep these alarmist parasites away.
