No Science Permitted For Climate Alarmists

The tide is rising fast on Louisiana. A report late last year by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration concluded that along the Gulf Coast, the sea level is surging three times faster than the global average—and studies have for years singled out New Orleans as the U.S. city most vulnerable to destruction from the effects of climate change. Louisiana’s rapidly rising threat from the sea was even the subject of a 2012 Academy Award-nominated film, Beasts of the Southern Wild, which depicts an impoverished community devastated by rising waters and vicious hurricanes.

Let’s Not Talk About Climate Change – NationalJournal.com

I’m not sure what they are putting in the water at the National Journal, but it should be obvious that water is a low viscosity fluid which seeks an equal elevation. There is no way that sea level can rise significantly faster in one place than another.

What is happening in Louisiana is that flood control structures have prevented sediment from reaching the Mississippi Delta, causing new land land formation to not keep up with subsidence. Only a complete moron would believe that buying a Prius will stop subsidence in New Orleans.

  1. I had posted this before, seems like it should be used again:

Remember, there are several ways that the sea level at a particular point can rise: an increase in the volumetric value (more water in the sea), the land attached to the gauge is subsiding, or the “slosh” of the water levels.

See here for an interactive site showing “global” sea level rise: http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/sltrends/

If it were true “global” rise, then all stations would be showing similar positive values.

So we can ask the “climate scientists” how, in a world of “increasing sea levels”, Kodiak Island AK is showing a NEGATIVE trend: “…The mean sea level trend is -10.42 mm/year with a 95% confidence interval of +/- 1.33 mm/year based on monthly mean sea level data from 1975 to 2006 which is equivalent to a change of -3.42 feet in 100 years…” (here’s another link to the Kodiak Island tidal gauge chart: http://www.psmsl.org/data/obtaining/rlr.monthly.plots/567.png)

Or, Seldovia, AK at -9.45 mm/year; Nikiski, AK at -9.80 mm/year; Yakutat, AK at -11.54 mm/year – well, you get the point.

They only pick the places that show extreme POSITIVE trends, such as Grand Isle, LA – the mean sea level trend is 9.24 millimeters/year.

  2. Andy DC says:

A true scientist would always examine both sides of the coin in the search for knowledge. These alarmists are only interested (and totally obsessed) with one side of the coin, thus they are not scientists at all, but advocates of a highly dubious cause.

    • tckev says:

They are only interested in the coins.

      • They are not really interested in the coins. That is simply a smoke screen to hide the truth from everyone including themselves.. They actually want to control everyone’s life with the objective being to destroy technological civilization and, ultimately, nearly all human life on earth. Universal top down command and control is the most effective way to accomplish that, they know it, and they are willing to do anything to bring it about.

Sea Level better damn start doing what CO2 tells it to, if it knows what’s good for it! And I mean globally!

  4. PmakS says:

Is there actual sea level rise or are we seeing the surface area covered by water increase due to an in increase in the amount of silt and debris in the delta area? Have noticed in certain parts of sf bay the tides appear higher but this is a result of increased sediment build up, some of which in the past was removed by dredging – case in point being San Leandro Marina, where boat owners have decided to relocate as the city does not have funds to keep the channels clear.
