If we can extrapolate this it will soon be 2 km²:
(you mean 2 million km^2.. 🙂 ) the rate of decrease of ice area is slower now than in all recent years, except possibly 2009, and that is what I believe could make the whole difference this summer.
The good news is the temperatures in the Arctic were slightly hotter last year (in May and June)

If we have a summer ice area like 2009, it’ll be a great victory against the GW fraud.

The ministry of truth hath spoken. The arctic will be “Ice Free” (which apparently describes a place with a lot of ice remaining) – if only in the virtual world.
What we really should do is focus on pointing out that no satellite record exists prior to the late 70s, so it is impossible to know what summer extent is “normal”.
You said it all, AGW is almost dead. All we need is a full year without big summer surprises.
