The temperature hit 90 degrees in Central Park Sunday, the first potential day of the heat wave. Bridgeport, Islip, Newark and LaGuardia also all had temperature readings in the 90s, and heat advisories have been issued for most of the tri-state for the rest of the week.

Meteorologists say the heat index — what it actually feels like outside — is expected to be at or above 95 degrees. On Monday, the heat index could reach 102 in Central Park.

I recall NYC area have four days in a row of 100+ temperature — I also recall Al Sharpton holding a protest on one of those days, he was wearing a jogging warmup outfit (must have been lined with popsicles.) From the NY Daily News (07/26/11): “The hottest July ever in the city was in 1994, when the average daily temperature was 81.4 degrees.”
You can also check this one: as well as this one: “The 1896 Eastern North America heat wave was a 10-day heat wave in New York City, Boston, Newark, New Jersey and Chicago that killed about 1,500 people in August 1896”

Yes, I intend to reduce my carbon footprint right away if not sooner.

With these types of stories I always feel like i’m in a trench somewhere fighting a war and someone screams out, “incoming.” You just know another barrage is coming, even closet-case Drudge is starting to make noise about the “heat wave.” Has anyone noted that this week is traditionally the hottest week of the year in North America?

July 14th avg. high in NYC is 84°F. 90 is a mere 6 degrees above normal – in other words, a typical summer day.
A typical rainless day in NYC during July will usually get into the upper 80’s with the rainy days’ temperature usually remaining in the upper 70’s. So, essentially, yesterday was about 2 degrees above normal for a sunny day. Shocker.

America needs a detox. I never cease to be amazed at how many people around me are on some sort of mind altering substance prescribed by their physician. Will they panic come Winter?
