Eisenhower 1961 : “an alert and knowledgeable citizenry”

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Ike was a greatly underrated President.

He was the last truly great president.
We need another one like him right now. Problem is the media controls so much of the election process. Ike was lucky in a way, he was a hero from the war, so the media couldn’t sabotage him.

      • Kuhnkat says:

Eisenhower blocked McCarthy’s investigation into soviet spying at military research installations. He did this by removing all records substantive to the investigations into the WH and declaring executive privilege. He then made a speech about how we have to be open with information that the press claimed was a smack at McCarthy.

Please tell me how a great US President suppresses information and allows spying to continue?? How he assists in smearing a man and his supporters attempting to clean the commies out of our GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY?!?!

Under Eisenhower as a General we also saw typical Political decisions being made instead of Military decisions. A LOT of men got killed for Political ass kissing. FDR was ultimately responsible for the decisions that handed Eastern Europe to the Soviets, BUT, Eisenhower insured that the battlefield did not prevent this.

It is amazing how so many of the men with the great speeches were actually doing the OPPOSITE!!! Seriously, where do you think the idea for 1984 and other political books came from??

FDR’s ideal national school curriculum would produce a ‘compliant work force’.

Welcome to the Brave New World, only three decades late.

  6. Kuhnkat says:

Amazing how the guys who made the best speeches were the ones who did the most to make sure their warnings did no good.

  7. Eisenhower’s speech contained warnings about
    1. A Military-Industrial Complex, and
    2. A Scientific Technological Elite

This video shows the latter warning:

    • This video shows the experimental basis for concluding the Sun

_ a.) Made our elements, and then
_ b.) Gave birth to the solar system five billion years (5 Ga) ago
_ c.) Sustained the origin and evolution of life after ~3.5 Ga ago
