This was humiliating, so JAXA cleverly adjusted their methodology downwards right at the finish line. Unadjusted JAXA is 5.1 million km². The new version of JAXA (adopted three days ago) is 4.8 million km².

Nuttercelli says they predicted 2013’s big increase in ice.

    What? The SEARCH exercise uses the NSIDC’s data, not JAXA. The fact that the latter have updated their product is entirely irrelevant.
