I have been a programmer and software engineer since the mid 1960’s. If all they wanted was a website that didn’t work, I could have done it in less than two minutes for a cup of coffee. Making a website that really does work takes longer and costs more. However it would be far less than three years and $600,000,000. The project was designed to fail from the get go. The failure will be used to justify the completion of the takeover and destruction of the US economy.
The only thing the liberal/progressives can actually deliver is poverty, despair, death, and destruction.
@Lionell: You and I have very similar technical backgrounds (and political sentiments), but I have to disagree with you on this one. I believe that this is a classic case of a grossly mismanaged large software project. In particular, the call for a “tech surge” reveals an ignorance of software development methodology. These people apparently have never heard of the “Mythical Man Month” and believe that if you double the the number of programmers, you halve the development time! Consummate bureaucratic ignorance and incompetence. Cheers.
It is not bureaucratic ignorance and incompetence per se. It is ideological: Fevered brains, who want power NOW (“no, the Boss insists we can’t put off the startup date, because he will look bad if we do–better to shut down the government, and blame the Republicans, and just keep lying about how it’s working well, until it magically starts working.”)

I’ve never written or participated in the writing of any nontrivial software that worked without being tested. It doesn’t seem that crazily difficult.
@Iconoclast: You’re 100% correct. Testing software, especially edge and corner conditions, takes a lot of time and skill. What I don’t understand is why more developers don’t use fuzzing applications to flush out obscure weaknesses in their code.
