February 27, 2014, 10:14 AM Could climate change mean the end of skiing?
The Sochi Olympics suffered some of the most extreme weather of any Winter Games. Athletes faced fog, rain and temperatures in the 60s. Research predicts that could become the new reality at ski resorts around the world. Porter Fox, the author of a controversial new book, “Deep: The Story of Skiing and the Future of Snow,” believes winter sports could be doomed.
Could climate change ruin the winter sports industry? – CBS News
Winter snow extent across the northern hemisphere has been increasing for 50 years, with five of the six snowiest winters since 2003.

There is not one shred of evidence to support the CBS News contention.
The 1932 and 1980 Lake Placid Olympics both had less snow than Sochi.

Maybe the next winter olympics could be held in Myrtle Beach, SC, it has about the same winter climate as Sochi.
Indoor events can be held anywhere. Outdoor events were held in the mountains only a few miles from Sochi, which is the 3rd tallest mountain range in the world after the Himalayas and the Andes.
I watched snowboard competition in a snow storm on the last day of the Olympics. That was over by the mountains, not on the beach. SOCHI, (43.579893 N, 39.721069 E), is only about as far north as Boise, Idaho or Portland, Maine. Its not as far north as Seattle, Washington . SOCHI is located at sea level on the Black Sea where south winds often keep it ice free in winter. No climate change there.
Snowboarding?! What next? Hackysack? Dorito munching? Couch-surfing? Bongo-playing?
Meanwhile back at the previous Olympic region around Vancouver:
I was in SLC skiing last weekend and one day it was a few degrees above average. Of course the commies in my group thought this was the Beginning of Doom, when winter SLC temp.’s have been on a downward trend for 15 years.
Of course Sochi proper has palm trees. It never was a proper venue.
Come on Don the games were good, the facilities top notice and all events went off relatively problem free. Some sports were impacted by the soft snow and the hockey rink ice was the subject of complaints but Sochi was as “proper” as many other venues ie Vancouver 2010.
You fool! Don’t you know that it is like the law? It can only be used against you, not for you!
Sotji, located at the Black Sea, is protected from Siberian cold by Kaukasus mountain range, with peaks up to 5600 m. Sotji is a bath resort , definitely not a ski resort!
сочи, located south of the Crimean beach resorts.
We don’t say bath resorts. That means something else.
Or Caucasus Range
LIke Cansas City? Kaukasus. Krim. Koka Kola.
Why do hacks make no effort to verify their articles any more. Just one look at Sochi climate data would have told them they were writing bollocks.
It looks like Antarctic sea ice has started to expand again. The Arctic is likely a couple of weeks away from maximum. So the global sea ice is on its way back up from its annual low. Oh dear. Alarmists must be wondering when it’s ever going to melt.
“Sochi is not the most obvious place to host the Winter Olympics.
“The Russian resort, on the eastern shore of the Black Sea, is humid and subtropical. Temperatures average out at about 52 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter, and 75 degrees in the summer. Palm trees line the streets, and it’s the only part of Russia warm enough to grow tea leaves. In other words, it’s a lovely spot if you’re planning a beach holiday — Stalin had his favorite summer house there — but it wouldn’t be most people’s first choice for a ski trip.”
Granada (Spain) would not the most obvious place to host the Winter Olympics.
would not be
I don’t think 2014 was too shabby with Northern Hemisphere snow cover either.
Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara warned on Wednesday the 2016 Olympics could be the last Games, with global warming an immediate threat to mankind.
A SELF-STYLED Taiwanese “prophet” was convicted of “spreading rumours” when he said a monster earthquake would destroy the island last month and fined $1380, a court said.
These two links have nothing in common.
The Tokyo governor ?!??
February 24, 2014 Record snowfall in Japan hammers farm industry
And Last winter:
Dec 26, 2012 Numerous Japanese cities reach record lows as freezing temperature persist
This is the same Sochi where Stalin grew lemons and tangerines?
It may be worth noting that, as far as I know, the Russians don’t take this AGW business seriously at all. I’m certain that Putin gets his advice on climate from the Russian Academy of Sciences, and they’re on record as forecasting a possible LIA in the not-so-distant future.
I’m fascinated by how these people now cling to the anodyne phrase “climate change” while bringing in all of the hoary claims about global warming. Talk about tying yourself in conceptual knots.
Yeah, if Miami had a tall mountain next door, you could hold the Winter Olympics there.
