As the editor of a once prestigious research journal told me over forty years ago, “One of these days your sense of humor is going to get you in trouble!”

    • Sparks says:

omanuel I’ve been reading some of your work out of curiosity, I don’t understand much of it but, nevertheless there are some very interesting scientific ideas being raised. I’ve began writing a program to explore the Idea that the sun was formed with a pulsar core, although I’m skeptical of the idea, I have to say that I’m able to replicate solar activity, 11 year cycles of varying intensity, 22 year magnetic cycle, I’m also able to replicate prolonged solar minimums and intense solar maximums.

I should be able to work out a solid mathematical model and basic principles for solar activity based on the idea, I don’t understand why a solar dynamo should behave this way, according Lsvalgaard the 11 year solar cycles are random according to the dynamo theory.

      What’s going on here?

      • Gail Combs says:

L.S. works for Stanford University in California, home of Paul Ehrlich. “Dr. Paul Ehrlich is a Stanford University biologist and author of the best-selling book The Population Bomb.” He wrote books with Obama’s Science Czar John Holdern that included the statement calling for “a massive campaign … to de-develop the United States”

Read the ‘news’ from Stanford University

Q&A: Stanford’s Paul Ehrlich fears the worst for a planet with 7 billion residents

Stanford biologist Paul Ehrlich still sees runaway population growth as a threat to the planet, but is hopeful that humans can avoid the first catastrophic collapse of a global civilization.

The United Nations projects that world population will reach 7 billion this month and could top 10 billion by the end of the century.

In his 1968 book, The Population Bomb, Stanford biologist Paul Ehrlich warned of the threat of unchecked human population growth. Over the past four decades, the book has brought attention to the question of how many individuals our planet can sustain…

Global population has more than doubled since you wrote The Population Bomb. What major consequences of that growth do we see today?

We are seeing climate disruption leading to rising food prices, loss of biodiversity, deteriorating ecosystem services, increased chances of vast epidemics and nuclear resource wars and a general reduction in the odds of avoiding the first catastrophic collapse of a global civilization….

That is the culture that L.S. lives in.

You might also want to read this which contradicts much of what L.S. is saying. OH and do not forget that L.S. and his friends are busy ‘Adjusting’ the sunspot number history….

        3.7.1 Comparison with direct data

        Comparison between isotopes

Instead of “I am the expert!” I also noticed that L.S. never went to Nir Shaviv’s website to directly confront him after saying he was wrong on WUWT despite my suggestion he do so.

        • Sparks says:

Thanks Gail, I’ll keep that in mind. I don’t usually toe any particular line when it comes to understanding about the variety of science I like to explore, But I am very aware about people like Paul Ehrlich and their fear mongering.
I don’t know L.S personally, but I believe his intentions are purely scientific, even though he can be short tempered and frustrating to have a discussion with sometimes. Although it’s interesting to note, L.S has an interest in defending his own theories etc…

      • Dmh says:

“… although I’m skeptical of the idea, I have to say that I’m able to replicate solar activity, 11 year cycles of varying intensity, 22 year magnetic cycle, I’m also able to replicate prolonged solar minimums and intense solar maximums… ”
        That’s interesting. 🙂
Would it be possible to publish these results as a pdf-file somewhere, explaining the hypotheses you made and the general idea of the calculations?
I read some of Omanuel’s papers too but the problem of the density of the Sun was impossible to solve without a complete reformulation of the gravitational law, then I gave up. Omanuel’s idea of “neutron repulsion” seems as simplified version of the presently accepted description of nuclear (strong) forces.

        • Sparks says:

I’ll be happy to publish about the general idea, I’m actually a bit taken aback by how well it works, some more insight on the subject would be welcome.

If our sun and solar-system formed from a supernova remnant in a nebula, there’s a whole-lot more going on with star formation, it may also explain why out of all the main sequence stars we know of, or star is the only one which has a solar-cycle.

      • omanuel says:

        What’s going on?

FEAR of nuclear annihilation of the whole planet scared world leaders into taking totalitarian control at the end of WWII, after it was discovered that:

Japan exploded an atomic bomb off the coast of Konan, Korea on 12 Aug 1945.

Stalin’s USSR troops captured Japan’s atomic bomb facility on 24 Aug 1945.

Frightened world leaders formed the United Nations on 24 Oct 1945.

The source of energy (E = mc2) in cores of atoms and stars – Neutron Repulsion – was hidden from the public in 1946 by the

        _ a.) Standard Nuclear Model
        _ b) Standard Solar Model

George Orwell started writing a futuristic novel in 1946:

        “Nineteen Eighty-Four”

Those obscure events of 1945-1946 may explain why we ask today, “What’s going on?

The last paragraph of Aston’s Nobel Prize Lecture (12 Dec 1922) explains why world leaders were afraid in 1945.

        • Sparks says:

          I don’t understand this!

        • -=NikFromNYC=- says:

“They were actually deceptive. If they had not been so obscure and so confusing, this kind of philosophy would not have held its own very long. But most men revere words that they can not understand and consider a writer whom they can understand to be superficial. That is a touching sign of modesty.” – Albert Einstein on the works of Aristotle (In Letters to Solovine)

Monty Childs, researcher of “Safire” and the Electric Universe / Plasma model

  2. Dave N says:

Yeah, but it supposedly wasn’t a “consensus”. You’d have to have experts like that saying the same thing, and even go on TV shows to espouse their views.

Of course, no other experts ever did that.

    • Gail Combs says:

Of course, no other experts ever did that.
ERRRrrrr, that is not quite correct.

Prophet of the Next Ice Age

In the 1960s a respected geologist in his native Czechoslovakia, George Kukla, counted the layers of loess – windblown mineral dust ground by the glaciers and laid down in the region during recent ice ages….

Until then, almost everyone thought that there were just four recent glacial ages, with long interglacials between them. An exception was Cesare Emiliani, who in Chicago in 1955 had traced major variations in heavy oxygen in seabed fossils, and counted seven ice ages…

Alec Nisbett of BBC-TV filmed Kukla for our multinational TV blockbuster called “The Weather Machine”, broadcast in 1974. By then the count of ice ages had increased still further and the reasons for the comings-and-goings of the ice were better understood…

A more definitive confirmation of Milankovitch came in 1976, in a paper by Hays, Imbrie and Shackleton, using Shackleton’s data in the figure above. But long before either that paper or my own, there was widespread behind-the-scenes acceptance of Milankovitch, and Kukla, for one, was concerned about the implications.

      Kukla warned President Nixon

Those who rewrite the history of climate science to suit the man-made global warming hypothesis hate to be reminded that global cooling and the threat of a new ice age rang alarm bells in the 1960s and 1970s. In the Orwellian manner they try to airbrush out the distinguished experts involved, and to say it was just a scare story dreamed up by stupid reporters like me.

No, we didn’t make it up. I [Nigel Calder] was present in Rome in 1961 when global cooling was already the main concern at a conference of the World Meteorological Organization and Unesco (see the Unesco reference). The discussions were led by Hubert Lamb of the UK Met Office, who went on to found the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia.

At nearly the same time the Club of Rome commissioned the book:The Limits to Growth (1972) Also in 1972 Club of Rome member Maurice Strong started drumming up support for the “Global Warming” and “Environmentalism scam at the UN First Earth Summit according to Journalist Elaine Dewar, who interviewed Strong. She wrote in Toronto’s Saturday Night magazine:

It is instructive to read Strong’s 1972 Stockholm speech and compare it with the issues of Earth Summit 1992. Strong warned urgently about global warming, the devastation of forests, the loss of biodiversity, polluted oceans, the population time bomb. Then as now, he invited to the conference the brand-new environmental NGOs [non-governmental organizations]: he gave them money to come; they were invited to raise hell at home. After Stockholm, environment issues became part of the administrative framework in Canada, the U.S., Britain, and Europe.

IN the meantime, Strong continued the international networking on which his influence rests. He became a member of the World Commission on Environment and Development (the Brundtland Commission). He found time to serve as president of the World Federation of United Nations Associations, on the executive committee of the Society for International Development, and as an advisor to the Rockefeller Foundation and the World Wildlife Fund. Above all, he served on the Commission on Global Governance — which, as we shall see, plays a crucial part in the international power grab.

Global Warming as well as Environmentalism were turned into a club to beat people into accepting poverty as there just due because of their ‘guilt’ in defiling Mother GAIA.

In the meanwhile geologists are still trying to figure out when we descend into the next glaciation (we are already in an Ice Age) and if we are lucky enough to have the Holocene (MIS1) be a double precession interglacial like MIS11 instead of the usual half precession interglacial. – by the Milankovitch cycles we are just past the half precession point. That is why CAGW is so utterly laughable.

William McClenney, a geologist who has written quite a bit about the next glaciation at WUWT (you can search his name and come up with his posts)

McClenney said in one of his less cryptic comments:

…The thing is whatever is happening at the half-precession+ old Holocene simply isn’t anomalous, yet. Nothing I have read post 2005 supports greater than half-precession length for the Holocene. [He sent me 300 plus papers] The operative quotation being found in the landmark paper by Lisiecki and Raymo (“A Pliocene-Pleistocene stack of 57 globally distributed benthic D18O records”, Paleoceanography, Vol. 20, PA1003, doi:10.1029/2004PA001071, 2005) being:

“Recent research has focused on MIS 11 as a possible analog for the present interglacial [e.g., Loutre and Berger, 2003; EPICA community members, 2004] because both occur during times of low eccentricity. The LR04 age model establishes that MIS 11 spans two precession cycles, with 18O values below 3.6 o/oo for 20 kyr, from 398{418 ka. In comparison, stages 9 and 5 remained below 3.6 o/oo for 13 and 12 kyr, respectively, and the Holocene interglacial has lasted 11 kyr so far. In the LR04 age model, the average LSR of 29 sites is the same from 398-418 ka as from 250-650 ka; consequently, stage 11 is unlikely to be artificially stretched. However, the June 21 insolation minimum at 65N during MIS 11 is only 489 W/m2, much less pronounced than the present minimum of 474 W/m2. In addition, current insolation values are not predicted to return to the high values of late MIS 11 for another 65 kyr. We propose that this effectively precludes a “double precession-cycle” interglacial [e.g., Raymo, 1997] in the Holocene without human influence.”

      [And from another comment:]
…. a great many climate myopics could stand to visit their climoptometrist to extend their “vision”. What seemingly few people seem to recognize is the occurrence of another “mini ice age” might not actually be long-sighted enough. The Holocene is now half-a precessional cycle old and change. Five of the last 6 interglacials have each lasted about half a precession cycle.

The possibility therefore exists that we could be at a climate junction often described these days as a tipping-point. Tipping the Holocene into extending itself with GHGs is perceived as a horror by many. Naturally tipping the Holocene into the next ice age, however, might bring great benefit to society by selecting-out those with climate myopia as well as other intellectual ailments….

Like me William has no kids and is a bit fed-up with the screaming chicken-little-AlGoreical followers.

With “current insolation values are not predicted to return to the high values of late MIS 11 for another 65 kyr.” Civilization should be preparing for a COLD DRY CLIMATE and not trying to wreck our present technology, or restrict emitting life giving CO2.

We should be pursuing nuclear power and desalinization plants. Note that Maurice Strong’s company is selling nuclear reactors

Ontario Hydro, an industrial concern, headed by Earth Summit secretary general Maurice Strong, which is the biggest source of CO2 emissions in Canada. This corporation is currently selling nuclear reactors to Argentina and Chile….(wwwDOT)

The head games the elite are playing with us are enough to drive an intelligent person nuts!

        • Gail Combs says:

I really do love William’s sense of humor.

He had a discussion with a couple of warmists at WUWT that was quite amusing.

What???? You mean to tell me the data is even a smidgen corrupt? Does the I.R.uS know diss??

    • omnologos says:

Kukla is still alive at 84 AFAIK and still believes an Ice Age starts with a period of global warming…

      • Gail Combs says:

William McClenney often points to the fact there were two thermal (warming) pulses before the drop into the Wisconsin glaciation that ended the Eemain interglacial and the Modern Warm Period is pluse #2….

        lsvalgaard says:
        February 12, 2013 at 10:04 pm

        “What paleo-evidence?
And since when has ‘some’ become ‘substantial’?”

Although Alec did not refer to Mis-5e and MIS-11c specifically, I took it to mean something like the lower-bound estimate of +6m MSL sea level rise during the second end-extreme interglacial thermal pulse just before we LEAPed into the Wisconsin glacial (Wurm: correlated with the Weichsel glacial stage of northern Europe), or the +21.3m MSL highstand which might have been achieved at the end-Holsteinian before we dropped off into the MIS-10 glacial…….

SOMEthing(s?) must necessarily have the temerity to be rather more substantial than a +0.59m 2007 AR4 worst case prognostication by 2100 backing it. That would have to be at least an order of magnitude oomph more than anthropogenic CO2 to even approach the low-end estimate of the end-Ermian highstand, the second of two thermal pulses right at its very end.

“Some” has to become even more substantial to challenge +45m to +52m highstands which populate that end extreme interglacial…..

Doing away with the non-orbital commensurate MIS-5e, whatever its highstand, we are still left to deal with the last end-extreme-interglacial-which-also-occurred-at-an-eccentricity-minimum-interglacial (MIS-11c) highstand or possibly +21.3m MSL……

To answer your question, imprecisely, “some”, becomes “substantial” somewhere between +6m (1 order of magnitude), +21.3m, and +52m MSL (almost 2 orders of magnitude).

        Just sayin

Darn, I didn’t check that I only had three links. Sorry Steve, you need to go fishing in the sea again.

        • Dmh says:

What caused the “thermal pulses” at the end of the interglacials? Solar maximums?

        • Gail Combs says:

I do not know what caused the ‘Thermal Pulse’

Several possibilities. Two are a Solar Maximum or possibly lunar forcing/ bond event.

          E. M. Smith looked at the long term lunar forcings. The most recent post:
(has links to several other papers and discussions)

And so did Clive Best (PhD in High Energy Physics) starting with this post:

There are lots of tantalizing Ideas out there. Dr Robert G. Brown at Duke University said: @WUWT on September 16, 2012 at 11:00 am

“….The last “interesting” piece of evidence is that the Little Ice Age, occurring in apparent coincidence with the Maunder Minimum, was the coldest period in the entire Holocene post the Younger Dryas fluctuation, and occurred as global temperatures had been gradually decreasing from the Holocene optimum for thousands of years. This large temperature excursion in response to what may have been a relatively minor variation in a primary driver (the Sun) strongly suggests that the Earth is either entering or is already solidly into the bistable regime where sufficiently sustained fluctuations can drive it nonlinearly towards the cold stable state, quite possibly drive it “rapidly” in that direction… the Ordovician/Silurian transition, wherein the Earth entered an ice age, relatively rapidly, in spite of having seventeen times the atmospheric CO_2 content that it does now when it began, and in spite of sustaining it at ten times the current concentration for the entire period the ice age lasted….”

Even the IPCC in TAR agreed that climate is best described by ‘Chaos Theory’ where the climate is relatively stable when in the cold stable state or warm stable state but as Dr. Brown put it when it is “solidly into the bistable regime” sustained fluctuations can drive it to the opposite state.

In other words the climate enters a region where it is NOT STABLE and can fluctuate wildly as the earth gets near the transition point. Unfortunately that seems to be the state we are in right now.

William McClenney discusses this unstable region in On “Trap-Speed”, ACC and the SNR

          …Dr. Richard B. Alley:

“They knew they had the critical layer of ice in their snow cave [where the ice cores were first processed-wm]. Wanda Kapsner, a Penn State graduate student, had been taking thin sections about every 20 meters along the lengths of core laid out in the cave. She told Alley, ‘This section is in Holocene ice and the next section 20 meters down is in Ice Age ice, and so between these two is where you’re going to find it.’”….

“’You did not need to be a trained ice core observer to see this,’ recalled Alley. ‘Ken Taylor is sitting there with the ECM and he’s running along and his green line is going wee, wee, wee, wee—Boing! Weep! Woop! And then it stays down.’ Dust in the windy ice age atmosphere lowered the acidity of the core to a completely new state. ‘We’re just standing there and he just draws a picture of it,”’Alley said.”

“Spontaneous celebration was followed by a sudden and unexpected quiet. ‘I think we cheered,’ recalled Alley, ‘and then we were all a little sobered. Because it was just so spectacular. It was what we’d been looking for, and there it was, and then we’re sitting there. Holy crap.’”

“The instant of recognition that summer of 1992 had a raw feel to it, although eventually the disquiet would find concrete expression in numerous articles and presentations as the scientists became accustomed to the large truth of abrupt climate change and immersed themselves in its fine details. Alley recalled later: ‘Those of us who were down there in that trench at that time knew right then that our picture of the world had changed. There’s a whole bunch of us who came out of that ice core project who have since dedicated ourselves to understanding abrupt climate change.’”

“In the GISP2 science trench, the tray holding the section of core rolled down the assembly line and then it was Alley’s turn at the ice. “It slides across in front of me and I’m trying to identify years: ‘That’s a year, that’s a year and that’s a year, and—woops, that one’s only half as thick.’ And it’s sitting there just looking at you. And there’s a huge change in the appearance of the ice, it goes from being clear to being not clear, having a lot of dust.”

Paper after paper began to roll off the scientific presses from 1992 on, and just like the unfolding recognition of plate tectonics which preceded it by a few decades, it was literally riveting for all of us geologists fascinated by the Quaternary. So we get our first trap-speed: climate can switch abruptly from its cold to its warm state in just one year. Our first peg on the lower-end of natural noise.….

Pretty darn frightening to think the climate can change from glacial to interglacial IN ONE YEAR! And these idiots want us to believe it was an increase in CO2 that brought us out of the Wisconsin Ice age???

McClenney’s article on …what were the end extreme interglacials like?

          (SNR = Signal-to-noise ratio)

        • Gail Combs says:

What is so DARN frustrating is none of this is new AND our Congress Critters are well aware of it.

          Look at the dateline.
1911 – Milutin Milankovitch started studying the ice ages, and as a prisoner of war (WWI), he worked on his theory that variations in eccentricity, axial tilt, and precession of the Earth’s orbit determined climatic patterns on Earth through orbital forcing.

1955 – Cesare Emiliani, counted seven ice ages.

1960s – George Kukla confirmed Cesare Emiliani findings that there were more ice ages than just four recent glacial ages, with long interglacials between them.

1965 – Debate over contradictory findings is so spirited that the National Science Foundation held a special conference to try to settle the dispute. link

1965 Wallace S. Broecker dated fossil coral reefs in the Florida Keys and the Bahamas. The three known periods of high sea levels closely correspond to the warm periods calculated by Milankovitch in his radiation curve for lat. 65Deg N.

1969 – International scientific congress in Paris – Broecker and Kukla meet, Imbrie talks to Shackleton

1969 – 1970 bad harvests world wide hidden from public.

1971- International Decade of Ocean Exploration, a group of scientists and researchers organized a series of studies known as CLIMAP — the Climate Long Range Investigation, Mapping and Prediction project.

1972 – Maurice Strong, a member of the Club of Rome was warning of ‘Global Warming’ at the UN’s First Earth Summit.

1974 – CIA report on the threat of ‘Global Cooling’

1976 – paper by Hays, Imbrie, and Shackleton, “Variations in the Earth’s Orbit: Pacemaker of the Ice Ages” was published. This was the paper that put the Milankovitch Cycles on the map.

Both Nigel Calder at the time and more recently Gerald Roe connected the Rate of ice change to the Milankovitch cycles. link

1970s – USA government goes from pro-manufacturing to anti-manufacturing and the labor force employed in manufacturing goes from 24% in the 1970s to less than 9% now.

1987 – UN floats trial balloon to see if the public can be scared into compliance through propaganda and gets The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer passed.

1988 – IPCC was established. The IPCC mandate states:

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to assess the scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of human induced climate change, its potential impacts and options for mitigation and adaptation.

Given the geological data from the preceding decades the idea humans cause climate change is really ludicrous.

1989 The Greenland Ice Sheet Project Two* (GISP2) began

SUMMER 1992 – Dr. Richard B. Alley (Penn State) discovers the transition from the Wisconsin Ice Age to the Holocene happened in ONE YEAR!

GISP2 is funded by the United States National Science Foundation Division of Polar Programs as a part of the Arctic System Science Initiative (ARCSS). The 109th TAG Air National Guard, Schenectady, NY, and the U. S. Air Force Military Airlift Command from McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey provide air transport. Support at Sondrestrom Air Base in Greenland is provide by the U.S. Air Force Space Command…. You think the US government didn’t KNOW about this find within 24 hours of it occurring? (wwwDOT)

On 1 July , after five years of drilling, the Greenland Ice Sheet Project Two (GISP2, Figure 1) penetrated several meters of silty ice and reached bedrock at a depth of 3053.44 meters into the bedrock (Figure 6 and 7) producing the deepest ice core thus far recovered in the world. A companion European ice coring effort, the Greenland Ice Core Project (GRIP), located 28 km east of GISP2 reached an ice depth of 3028.8 meters (> 250,000 years of record) in July 1992 (Dansgaard et al., 1993).

June 1992 – Agenda 21, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the Statement of principles for the Sustainable Management of Forests were adopted by more than 178 Governments at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, 3 to 14 June 1992.

12/06/92 – USA signs the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change

21/03/94 – USA ratifies the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change This despite the discovers less than two years before.

29/06/94 – The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the ratification of the Convention on Biological Diversity (Biodiversity Treaty) by a vote of 16 to 3. link This was a plan to move all Americans off their land into small ‘Approved’ areas leaving over 1/2 the USA as wilderness and much of the rest as ‘Restricted Areas’

1999 – Alley was invited to testify about climate change by Vice President Al Gore.

2002 – The National Academy of Sciences with Alley as chair published a book “Abrupt Climate Change”

2003 – Alley was invited to testify by the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation

2007 – Alley was invited to testify by the U.S. House Committee on Science and Technology

2010 – Alley was invited to testify by the U.S. House Committee on Science and Technology

That time line sure makes you think doesn’t it?

      • omanuel says:

Thanks, Gail Comb, for an excellent history of the global climate scare. Insertion of the following would make your timeline even better:

1945 – FEAR of death from nuclear annihilation at the end of the Second World War convinced world leaders to take totalitarian control of society by:
_ a.) Forming the United Nations on 24 Oct 1945
_b.) Using conscious models to hide the energy in cores of stars and atoms

        • Gail Combs says:

According to Pascal Lamy the decision to form a world government was made in the 1930s. League of Nations (1919–1946) Then we had WWII in the 1940s and as you said the nuclear weapons development and the formation of the UN. This time the decision ‘stuck’ most probably as you said from fear of nuclear annihilation.

    • Jason Calley says:

Yes, a pot of climate gold! Why am I reminded of a certain breakfast cereal leprechaun saying, “Pink hearted socialists, yellow movie stars, green energy scammers, all these and a pot of climate gold in every box of CO2 Charms!”

  4. omnologos says:

It wasn’t a global cooling consensus. It was just “widely accepted” that “the world” was “cooling” (c) William Connolley.

The fact that a widely accepted idea of a cooling world is another way of describing a global cooling consensus, is of no interest of course.

  5. Well now everyone knows that the cooling is due to the warming, which only reinforces the cooling….which could case the ice age as little gaia gets a fever….you know scientific stuff.

  6. Dmh says:

In this little report from 1972, Prof. Hubert Lamb shows much better predictive abilities and good climate analysis than the present day warmists.

The chronological history of these discoveries led world leaders to take totalitarian control of society at the end of the Second World War.

    1. Einstein found that rest mass is stored energy (E = mc2).

    2. Bohr discovered that atomic rest mass is in a core that is smaller than the atom: Volume(atom)/V(nucleus) = 1,000,000,000,000,000 !

    3. Aston found that atoms of the same element may have different masses. Chlorine is 75% Cl-35 and 25% Cl-37. It’s average atomic weight is 35.5.

    4. Aston measured the mass of each isotope of every element and found there, “powers beyond the dreams of scientific fiction,” that once released might be uncontrollable, igniting elements like hydrogen, and our discovery be announced to the world by the birth of a new star.

See last paragraph of Aston’s 1922 Nobel Prize Lecture:

      1. Hiroshima was destroyed on 6 Aug 1945 when the powerful, fragmenting force of neutron repulsion was released from the cores of uranium atoms.

      2. Nagasaki was destroyed on 9 Aug 1945 when the powerful, fragmenting force of neutron repulsion was released from the cores of plutonium atoms.

      3. Japan perhaps tested its first atomic bomb on 12 Aug 1945 and Stalin’s USSR troops perhaps captured Japan’s nuclear facility on 24 Aug 1945.

What caused the “thermal pulses” at the end of the interglacials? Solar maximums?”

If the sun’s polar magnetic field is in a cycle and it reverses regularly during an interglacial, obviously during a full blown ice age it does not.

    • Gail Combs says:

      That’s a good one. snicker

      • Sparks says:

Ha! what is? Steven’s comment system gets more confusing than a man made climate system!

          Ha! what is? …
The idea the sun’s polar magnetic field does not reverse regularly during a full blown ice age.

You do know about the Milankovitch cycle, don’t you? link

Graph of the Holocene TSI as a result of the Milankovitch cycle.

I am leaning toward a lunar explanation of the Dansgaard-Oeschger oscillations and Bond events. link That is the latest and you work back through the links from there.

Sorry I can not easily list the links. E.M. is the best place to send people that has a nice collection of links on the subject.

  9. Sparks says:

Yea I understand those cycles, I have all the links and I read E.M’s blog too, 🙂

It’s all part ‘n parcel of the solar system, working out what the pieces are and how they all fit together is the fun part.
for example, looking at the Be10 record, if extra-solar beryllium concentration found on earth is regulated by the sun, wouldn’t the sun have the potential to have prolonged periods with no polar magnetic field reversal and no cyclical activity over extended periods?

    That’s a mechanism!
