It wasn’t just the US that was hot that year. January, 1896 was by far the hottest month on record in Australia.

    Heck we haven’t hit those type of temperatures this year in mid NC! All we have seen is some days in the low 80s and a few lows around freezing.

    1896 also produced Washington, DC’s worst hurricane, major structural damage, whole blocks unroofed.
