  1. Phil Jones says:

Laughable…. How many points of Apocalypse have come and gone now? Steven outlines them every week right here…

What Mikey Mann did here was bide time for his BS…. 2036!!

  2. Shazaam says:

    “Faux Pause” indeed…..

At least the SA comments were entertaining. Based upon those folks firm beliefs, Toto should be rolling in wheelbarrow-loads of cash……

Must be nice to live in such a bubble. (SA commenter’s that is) Where all the fantasy computer-generated models predict the future so very accurately. Even Mikey Mann waffled, and listed the possible reasons for the faux pause. Yet he neglected to mention the tiny little bit about the effects of CO2 being negligible after the first 100 ppm… Yet another faux pas methinks.

  3. darrylb says:

Sad to say what has become of SA.

  4. wulliejohn says:

Can he not be more precise? Give a date? I need to negotiate a humongous loan a month or so in advance and then blow it all in one big spending spree.

  5. Phil Jones says:

The SA comments were sad…. References to the Koch Brothers by no means form the basis of an argument…

In addition … Clearly Temp patterns have NOT mimicked the shape of a hockey stick… 2013 was rather cold… Not record hot… The past 17 years have remained flat… Like no Hockey Stick I ever played with…

  6. jimash1 says:

    The Mann article is irritating.
    The comments , Bizarre.
Assumptions that Ice on top of water is , should, or can be considered a permanent geological feature , absurd.
That methane trapped in Peat and lakes can or should be frozen in forever, stupid.
That there are cheaper better fuels available for use if only the evil fossil fuel funded deniers would allow them, strange.
And the reaction to the argument that using H2 as a fuel would increase water vapor in the air,
    Ignorant.
All in all, 97% consensus crapola.
And in this, I am unanimous.

Inner Mongolia witnesses heavy snowfall as temperature drops

  8. Dave N says:

I guess Mikey figures he won’t live past 70, so he picked a year past his own expiry date.

  9. Gamecock says:

I assume Mann will retire before 2036.

  10. Morgan says:

Scientific American crossed the threshold and will now be found in supermarket isles near The National Enquirer

    • Dave N says:

Sadly, Sci Am has been there for some time.

I propose a new category: “Consensus Magazines”. The ones that those who are unable to think for themselves; readers and contributors alike.

  11. Eric Barnes says:

“Climate Danger Threshold”. Wow. That is frightening.

    • Andy Oz says:

Yep. “Weather Warning Doorstep” was their first choice of headline, but doesn’t sound scarey enough.

  12. ccglea says:

I should believe this because his predictions have been so good in the past?

  13. Ivan says:

    Apparently some things never change:
    OUR AMERICAN LETTER.
    New York, January 6, 1890.
“We have now passed to the end of the first week of January without a single touch of cold weather worthy the name. Once we had an inch or two of snow, but it melted away in 24 hours. A quarter of a century ago, from early in December to the end of March, we had continuous skating, and for weeks together, even the milk waggons and the public omnibuses had to take off their wheels and put on sleds in order to make their way about the streets. But the seasons have grown milder and milder, the memorable “blizzard” being an altogether exceptional episode, and it begins to look as though the combination would be an absolute abolition of the old-fashioned winter. The men of science are racking their brains to invent hypotheses to fit the case, but none of these are very satisfactory.

  14. B says:

    Despite doomsday predictions….

  15. Andy Oz says:

In the Chicken Little religion, Michael Mann is the one of the 12 Apostles who partook of too many mushrooms and has now written his Book of Revelation.

  16. Morgan says:

I meant aisle, not isle. Sorry.

  17. Alec, aka daffy duck says:

The year mikie got his pHd is the same year the temperature plateau started…

  18. We’ve already crossed the “Climate Danger Threshold”. We’ve also crossed the “Ocean Ponzi Falstaff”, & the “Capital Bikram Ponythief”. Be scared. Be very scared.

  19. Would Dr. Mann like to share the evidentiary basis of this august prediction?

Oh, that’s right, Dr. FrankenGraph doesn’t make available any backup information, because people will only use it to refute his findings.

Hey, Michael, this is known as the scientific method – If someone cannot reproduce your results, your prediction should be filed in the dumpster where it belongs.

    • Dave N says:

“Oh, that’s right, Dr. FrankenGraph doesn’t make available any backup information, because people will only use it to refute his findings.”

You’re confusing him with Phil Jones; Mikey doesn’t let you have his because no-one is worthy enough to see it. He is the smartest person in the Universe, and the data would burn your eyes. I wonder if he’s a Mormon?

    • Morgan says:

You don’t need evidence when you are the authority.

  20. David A says:

We al have a duty to comment at S,A. Just simple facts to really piss them off.

  21. tom0mason says:

Ah bless, Mikey’s made another one of his predictions.
    He’s such a joker!
    😆

  22. ACR says:

    OT: http://www.nature.com/nclimate/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nclimate2226.html

Global sea level to rise as ice melts in Antarctica. Warming temperatures lead to record sea ice. The resulting ice discharge leads to uncertainty in sea level projections. Or something.

  23. Ben Vorlich says:

It’s always Jam Tomorrow with these guys!

It’s not a hockey stick more like a Baseball Bat.

  24. De Paus says:

By that time we are expected to be near the deepest point of a new Grand Minimum and the Great Lakes will be frozen most of the year, if not all year around. Mikey was born in 1965, we will put him in a home for the elderly insane when he reaches the age of 71. May-be we should better do this now already.

  25. jeremyp99 says:

Mikey crossed the sanity threshold some years back. Nurse, nurse, the screens, the screens.

  26. Louis Hooffstetter says:

    David A says:
“We al have a duty to comment at S.A. Just simple facts to really piss them off.”

Good luck. Posting simple facts based on science will earn you this:
“Commenting has been disabled for this account, please contact webmaster@sciam.com for assistance”

UnScientific UnAmerican no longer tolerates scientific debate.

  27. Bob Knows says:

We Canceled our subscription to SA a few years ago when we observed that they had changed their focus from science to propaganda. Its not science. Its lies and fraud.

  28. philjourdan says:

He will keep moving the goal posts.
