    LOL. These guys must have been paid by the word; back in the days when they could actually do arithmetic.

    I find it very interesting how *new* the knowledge about the influence of the Sun on Earth’s climate is, just because our knowledge about the Sun is itself in its infancy.
    At that time (1950’s) the PDO was entering a negative phase

    but the radiations of cycle 19 were so intense (with peak around 1958)

    that they forced the oscillation into positive mode for a couple of years.
    Probably, the low intensity of the present cycle will have exactly the opposite effect with the AMO.
