Frequency Of Very Cold Days In 2014 Fifth Highest On Record In US

Not only is the US having the coldest summer on record, but the country also had one of the coldest winters on record.

Despite strong UHI effects due to asphalt, central heating and snow removal, loss of rural stations, etc., the frequency of 0F (-18C) days in 2014 so far was fifth highest on record, and the highest in 35 years.

From the site sunshinhours, I learn from his analysis of NOAA records that 28,504 Low Max Records were set in the last 365, over the same time period only 13205 High Max records were set. That amounts to more than a 2:1 ratio in colds favor.
