Forecasting The Morons

With a record blast of cold air forecast for the US on New Years, look for hucksters like John Holdren to try to blame the cold on non-existent “missing Arctic ice”

Arctic sea ice extent is almost exactly at the 1981-2010 median.

Wait a minute. The “missing” ice (that’s supposed to be in the Arctic) is really down here making it cold? I thought they were just missing the extra heat, now they’ve gone and lost the extra cold as well? Somebody needs to get these guys a babysitter. They keep losing things, heat, cold, walruses, polar bears, rural measurement stations, Nobel Prizes, data sets, algorithms, computer code, ethics etc. Maybe we should get them some of those electronic key fobs, you know, the ones that if you lose your keys you can just clap and the key fob beeps. We need to make sure Santa stuffs a bunch of them into the climate “scientists” stockings so that they can find all this stuff they keep losing. (That would be in addition to the ever so ironic coal that they so richly deserve.)

      Now, Now Niel,

It is not nice to go making fun of those who are mentally morally deficient.

        Yeah, but it’s fun, innit?

        • Gail Combs says:

Yes, ESPECIALLY when they try to take the moral high ground as PJ London has on the “Another Busy Day For The President” thread

      • Gail Combs says:

Bumper sticker seen in our nation’s capital: “Hire the morally handicapped.”
Possibly taken from an offhand remark by Tom Lehrer during one of his performances. (Memories of Hubby who was ?Blessed? with access to Lehrer’s records and other recordings.)

My mom was a fan and our very musical family kept up with all his work. She still has a copy of his original 10″ 33-1/3 album “Songs by Tom Lehrer” that she bought new. Something else you’d appreciate; when cassette tape came out my father used my new player to transcribe “The Elements” to perform at a charity talent show. I think I know all of his work by memory. Even though he is a dyed in the wool lefty, his music is, for the most part, terrifyingly accurate and utterly timeless. e.g “New Math” Common Core.

Ah yes, ‘Feeding pigeons in the park’ is a classic.

I love Lehrer we have Too Many Songs by Tom Lehrer with Not Enough Drawings by Ronald Searle
      A favorite of mine:

My husband can sing this at speed: (I couldn’t carry a tune if my life depended on it.)

  3. Andy DC says:

I count 5 missing ice cubes with the combined size of West Virginia. A death spiral! We are doomed!! It’s all your fault! Especially considering there is virtually no albedo affect whatsoever this time of year. Maybe from moonlight.

  4. 1. If the arctic blast comes down to North America and brings warm air into Russia and Europe, it’s a polar vortex caused by global warming.

    2. If the arctic blast goes down to Russia and Europe, and draws warm air into North America, it’s just plain old regular global warming.

Either way, the cure is to tax American corporations.

  5. Jason Calley says:

Yes, this is even worse than we predicted! We knew that there would be missing ice — but who expected that we would have missing “missing ice”?! Oh, the humanity!

  6. Kenneth Simmons says:

Steve, I am skeptical about any map predicting severe cold in the US, especially the Eastern half. So far, I’ve seen many maps calling for cold only for the cold to be tempered or pushed to a later date. Further, the duration, if it does develop is also in question.

  7. philjourdan says:

There is no more sea to ice – unless they intend for the North Atlantic to start freezing over.
