Keeping Proper Focus

Congressional Democrats are focused like a laser on saving the planet from pipelines and Guam tipping over. They don’t have time to be distracted by nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists.

Hank was a practicing Lawyer before becoming a Congressman. College Graduate, went to Law School and passed his Bar Exam apparently.

The sinking Guam exchange was a farcical exchange between old friends. It is made out to be what is isn’t because so many professional Democrats have earnestly made absurd calculations of that order. But this is not a good example of it to use.

That man was not joking. There was no indication he was not serious or that he meant it metaphorically. He’s just ignorant.

  6. annieoakley says:

Hank was dead serious. It is frightening that he is in the position that he holds and yet ignorant.

No one is that dumb, so it had to be an act. But why would he want to appear that stupid?

  8. rah says:

Oh BTW it seems NOAA is saying there is a distinct El Niño pattern forming. Lots of discussion on it at WUWT. All kinds of science talk. No need for all that. Just check with the Peruvian anchovy fishermen, they know before any scientist if there is an El Niño or not.

I wonder what the Humboldt Current is doing?

If you look at this old Sea Surface Temperature map it has a good image of the tongue of cold water from the Antarctic Circumpolar Current just before Drake Passage, headed up the coast of South America to the Galapagos Islands.

I really love the red hot Anomaly along the DC to Boston coast line….

      • rah says:

I don’t see any such pattern on your images or any other I’ve seen. Of course neither do a lot of people over at WUWT. Like I said check the Anchovies. They will tell all! If they are there, it’s a no go. If the catch is decreasing? Well NOAA might be on to something.

        • Gail Combs says:

rah, check the ocean along Peru. That is the western side of South America.

In the top two maps there is a finger of green (cold) water running up the coast. That is the Humboldt Current that some time runs up the coast. It is a cold water current splitting off from the Antarctic Circumpolar Current.

…The anchovy fishery off the Pacific Coast of Peru has supported regional populations for centuries. Fishers noticed a periodic drop in their typically sizable anchovy catch that seemed to coincide with a dramatic warming of the ocean waters. This regularly began in December, near Christmas, prompting the fisherman to name the event “El Niño”, for “the Christ child.” …. link

So if that finger of cold water is there then it should NOT be an “El Niño” event in the making or at least just a wimpy one.

The third graph, the Anomaly loop I find tougher to look at probably because it has been ‘Adjusted’ just like everything else the ClimAstrologists touch. However again you can see cooler than normal (blue) water along the South American coast.

The fourth graph in the1997/1998 super El Niño event time frame shows the waters along the South American coast much much warmer that the top three graphs.

          …….

          SWAG territory.
          I think with
          1. the changes in the wind speed that drives the Antarctic Circumpolar Current,
          2. the added sea ice around Antarctica.
          3. a shift to less EUV, UV, Visible radiation from the sun meaning less energy going into the oceans,
we are going to see a lot more La Niñas and wimpy El Niños as long as the sun stays in hibernation mode.

I understand the Humbolt current and many of it’s effects. The way it serves as a whale feeding ground. The effect on the sea life of the Galapagos Isles, the reason why massive numbers of squid species including the larger one that bears the same name as the current from the great scientist and discoverer Humbolt. And how the current carries the rich plankton up along with upwelling currents from the deep, to feed the system that supports all of that life.

AND that the great bio mass of Anchovy, like so much of the rest depends on it. I also know that those Anchovy, or rather the lack of them, have historically been a better indicator El Niño than any satellite imagery and human analysis they’ve come up with yet.

Thus, if you wanna really know if there is an El Niño developing just go check with the Peruvian Anchovy fishermen and fishing authorities. If there are abundant Anchovy there is not warm up welling. If there are not Anchovy then look for an El Niño. And BTW there ARE abundant Anchovy AND you images show no warm up welling, and so NOAA is FOS!

        • Gail Combs says:

          rah,

Glad we agree. I think it is NOAA’s wishful thinking again. They are really really praying for a nice Super El Niño to scare the Sheeple into supporting Gore Bull Warbling. I do not think they are going to get it.

There is a weak Modoki enso event occurring, and as such, you see the kind of major cold winter in the east that we saw in 02-03 and many of the winters in the late 50s-70s. Even the JAMSTEC site, which along with SCRIPPS are the best low latitude centers ( I watch both of them extensively and even though they disagree with my ideas on AGW, their work on enso events is fantastic) says so, right on their front page.

          February 19, 2015
ENSO forecast: The SINTEX-F model prediction and present observations show that an “El Niño Modoki”condition prevails in the tropical Pacific. As per the model predictions the warmer than normal SST anomalies are expected to continue in the central Pacific through the boreal summer.

I dont understand what is so hard to see about that, given the weather behaved very close to what those type of enso events produce. There is no super nino as was opined, but the reason we had the brutal winter idea was because of the idea this event would evolve. So I am having trouble understanding the resistance to the idea their is a weak event occurring. Whats the big deal? Its the very warm n Pac that is the reason for the warm global temps and fighting over whether this is weak enso event or not seems to me to be a waste of time. Its happening, the sensible weather is similar to such occurrences, and was mentioned back in the preseason as a reason for why we had another brutal winter with plenty of snow. One of the problems is we seem to want to box these into some kind of neat package. The atmosphere is never neat but there is enough to substantiate the weak enso classification.

I saw this video right after it happened and filed it away. About three months later I was exiting I-20 in Decatur GA and the exit ramp had some people campaigning for the coming election. A fresh faced young man approached my window and asked for my vote to re-elect Hank Johnson to Congress. I said I was from out of town and went on, but the name kept ringing a bell. I was 20 miles away when I remembered why. I have been kicking myself ever since for not remembering and asking about his crusade to save Guam from tipping over.

Gold Mine: Hillary Clinton’s Brother Granted Super-Rare Mining Permit from Haiti After State Dept. Sent Country Billions

    by Alexander Marlow5 Mar 20151044
Hillary Rodham Clinton’s brother, Tony Rodham, sat on the board of a self-described mining company that in 2012 received one of only two “gold exploitation permits” from the Haitian government—the first issued in over 50 years.

The tiny North Carolina company, VCS Mining, also included on its board Bill Clinton’s co-chair of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC), former Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive.

The Rodham gold mine revelation is just one of dozens featured in a forthcoming bombshell investigative book by three-time New York Times bestselling author Peter Schweizer, according to a Thursday statement from publishing giant HarperCollins. The publisher says the book, Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich, is the culmination of an exhaustive one-year deep dive investigation into the nexus between the Clintons’ $100+ million personal wealth, the Clinton Foundation, and the decisions Hillary made as Secretary of State that benefited foreign donors, governments, and companies.

VCS’s coveted gold mining exploitation permit was apparently such a sweetheart deal that it outraged the Haitian senate, since royalties to be paid to the Haitian government were only 2.5%, a sum mining experts say is at least half the standard rate. Moreover, the mining project in Morne Bossa came with a generous ability to renew the project for up to 25 years. Nevertheless, the fledgling company proudly touted its luck in landing the deal.

“This is one of two permits issued today, the first permit of their kind issued in over five decades,” reads the only press release under VCS’s “news” tab on its scant website.

According to USAID, $3.1 billion have been dispersed since the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Clinton Cash is said to contain “seismic” and “game-changing” revelations that far eclipse anything presently reported on the Clinton Foundation’s violation of its agreement not to accept foreign government money during Hillary’s tenure as secretary of state.

In 2011, Schweizer’s book Throw Them All Out exposed insider trading by members of Congress and became the subject of an award-winning CBS 60 Minutes story and “started the STOCK [Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge] Act stampede,” according to Slate.

“Bestselling author Peter Schweizer coins a new term to describe the unique way in which Bill and Hillary tend to mingle their political, personal and philanthropic interests: the ‘Clinton Blur,’” says HarperCollins editor Adam Bellow. “Schweizer’s scrupulously sourced and exhaustively researched book raises serious questions about the sources of the Clintons’ sudden wealth, their ethical judgment, and Hillary’s fitness for high public office.”

The book is slated to hit bookshelves nationwide May 5th.

The local news at the time reported that Hank’s spokeperson said he was the only one at the hearing bringing up environmental issues, which is why he was being so criticized. I highly suspect that someone prior to the hearing was telling him about an environmental tipping point, and he is so clueless/dumb that he misunderstood that to be a literal tipping of the island.

  12. Steve says:

i don’t think anything can top that “guam tipping over” line. How people actually think their “comedy news” of stewart and colbert are truthful, is embarrassing. Granted both sides of the party have made ludicrous comments over the years. but that type of comment is worthy of play year, after year, after year…………..you only see the bias if you look for it……
