Shutting Down The Criminals At the EPA

The House of Representatives today passed H. R. 2042, the Ratepayer Protection Act, by a vote of 247 to 180.  This vote strongly rebukes the Obama EPA’s power grab.  It also provides strong support for the rider in the House’s Interior-EPA Appropriations bill that would also block the EPA’s regulation of greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants.  Another key point that needs to be stressed in the media is that it shows that President Obama’s commitments to reduce emissions made to the forthcoming Paris Accord are opposed by a strong majority in the House and are therefore unlikely to be implemented.

As I understand it the Fed/EPA goal is to reduce CO2 output from the power generation sector by 30%. Some say reduce coal fired CO2 by 30%. They are not the same.

30% reduction in power generation CO2 times 38% of US CO2 contribution times 19% global CO2 contribution = 2.27% reduction in global CO2. Whoopee!

    Eliminating half of coal fired generation: 0.5 * 0.245 * 0.19 = 0.0233 or 2.33% of global CO2 burden. Double whoopee!!

Massive economic disruption for an inconsequential solution to a non-existent problem.
(Generation produces 38% of US CO2.)
(US produces 19% of global CO2.)
(Coal CO2 represents 24.5% of US GHGs.)

    And Obama will veto it.

Which the Congess Critters are well aware of but they can now tell their voters —- “We TRIED!”

Turning off the money hemoraging to CAGW via research grants and the EPA is the way to go.

If Obummer vetos shut down the darn government and keep it shut down. Congress can always pass an emergency budget (limited time) that takes care of the necesities and if Obummer vetos that too the Progressives will have egg on their face.

Vetoes can be overridden with enough votes.

Regretfully, Steven, the biggest criminals may be members of the US National Academy of Sciences – a private, self-perpetuating group of once distinguished scholars – who review the budgets of federal research agencies for Congress and recommend which projects to fund.

The biggest criminals are not the scientists adjusting or hiding experimental data, or heads of federal research agencies who comply with recommendations from the US NAS, but the US NAS members who directed billions of dollars into the fraudulent AGW scam.

I share your frustration about the current totalitarian world government, but the best available scientific measurements and observations convince me (as they apparently did Max Planck) that a “conscious and intelligent Mind” guides the force of creation of every atom, life and planet in the solar system.

The force of creation is also the force of destruction and preservation.

In other words, I do not know how or when it will happen, but I am personally convinced Big Brother is going down !

  6. The alarmists really are clueless. They remind me of the expression on this cartoon which I got josh to draw this for me (to illustrate the “Caterillar theory of plate tectonics” – this is latest article: The Leaky Atmosphere Hypothesis – is global pressure a proxy for global temperature?

    • Gail Combs says:

I was also getting into the point that the earth does not have a constant pressure over geologic time yesterday but I used flying dinosaurs and the presence of huge dinosuars who needed a much higher oxgen partial presure to exist.

    China Powers Up

The express purpose of the infrastructure upgrade is to correct a geographic mismatch. Chinese manufacturing hubs such as Shenzhen and Guangzhou are on the country’s east coast, perfectly placed for easy shipping, while most of its coal mines are in the west and northwest. But even if the coal were burned in the west and northwest, there were no transmission lines to carry electricity over long distances without significant losses. Instead, domestic coal has been transported east over rail lines and by sea. But in recent years, opportunistic foreign coal producers have also brought seaborne imports into the country, with Chinese traders snapping them up when the price is lower than domestic coal. In total, imported coal makes up about 200 million tonnes of the 4 billion tonnes burned in China each year.

    • Anthony S says:

China has also unfortunately been using trucks to transport the coal, leading to some epic traffic jams.
Greatly increased coal production in Inner Mongolia was shipped to Beijing along this route because of the lack of railway capacity, which overloaded the highway.

      • rah says:

Trucks are commonly used in some cases for short hauling coal to power plants from nearby mines. As a driver I hate it. Had a windshield broken in my car in southern Indiana by a chunk of coal from an improperly tarped truck. But the shear quantity of coal a decent sized station uses just about demands rail, barge, or ships, to bring in the coal needed unless the source is very close. Some coal fired stations are set up to turn a whole filled rail car over and dump the coal into a pit where a belt conveyor takes it too the pile.

What the Chinese are doing is the equivalent to what the Allies tried to do in Europe during WW II using the Red Ball Express. It’s a very inefficient and ultimately losing proposition.
