      He is a propagandist but he is not completely dumb. None of them are and they are well aware of the 60 year ocean cycles and the 88 year solar cycle and the fact we are towards the end of the Holocene.

      Also ice cores from the Freemont Glacier in Wyoming show it went from Little Ice Age cold to Modern Warming warm in the ten years between 1845 and 1855. Naturally. Which shows Joe and his ‘Scientist’ are FOS.

      At a depth of 152 m the refined age-depth profile shows good agreement (1736±10 A.D.) with the 14C age date (1729±95 A.D.). The δ18O profile of the Upper Fremont Glacier (UFG) ice core indicates a change in climate known as the Little Ice Age (LIA)….

      At this depth, the age-depth profile predicts an age of 1845 A.D. Results indicate the termination of the LIA was abrupt with a major climatic shift to warmer temperatures around 1845 A.D. and continuing to present day. Prediction limits (error bars) calculated for the profile ages are ±10 years (90% confidence level). Thus a conservative estimate for the time taken to complete the LIA climatic shift to present-day climate is about 10 years, suggesting the LIA termination in alpine regions of central North America may have occurred on a relatively short (decadal) timescale.

          What is even funnier is they have the whole thing BACKWARDS!!!!

          Thanks to the energy bound in the heat of vaporization, if the water vapor goes up, as demanded by the CO2 global warming conjecture***, the world temperature should actually be go DOWN!!!! (And the deserts should be contracting)

          For example look at the humid Brazilian rain forest, Barcelos, Brazil, and the dry N. African Desert, Adrar, Algeria.

          This data is from May (2012) which is midway between the vernal equinox and the summer solstice and therefore the sun would be midway between the equator and the Tropic of Cancer (the latitude line at 23.5° North) so the solar insolation at both locations would be roughly equal with a bit more expected in Barcelos, Brazil.

          Average humidity 90%

          Adrar, Algeria
          …..monthly min 9C monthly max 44C, monthly average 30C
          Average humidity around 0%

          The effect of the addition of water vapor (~ 4%) is not to raise the temperature but to even the temperature out. The monthly high is 10C lower and the monthly low is ~ 10C higher when the GHG H2O is added to the atmosphere in this example. The average temperature is about 4C lower in Brazil despite the fact Algeria is further north above the tropic of Cancer. Some of the difference is from the effect of clouds/albedo but the dramatic effect on the temperature extremes is also from the humidity.

          I took a rough look at the data from Brazil. Twelve days were sunny. I had to toss the data for two days because it was bogus. The average humidity was 80% for those ten days. The high was 32 with a range of 1.7C and the low was 22.7C with a range of 2.8C. Given the small range in values over the month the data is probably a pretty good estimate for the effects of humidity only.

          You still get the day-night variation of ~ 10C with a high humidity vs a day-night variation of 35C without and the average temp is STILL going to be lower when the humidity is high and the effect of clouds is removed.

          This data would indicate GHGs have two effects. One is to even out the temperature and the second is to act as a “coolant” at least if the GHG is H2O, the most significant GHG.

          Here is the ‘BIG LIE’ about CO2 causing an increase in water vapor straight from NASA:

          Water Vapor Confirmed as Major Player in Climate Change

          Water vapor is known to be Earth’s most abundant greenhouse gas, but the extent of its contribution to global warming has been debated. Using recent NASA satellite data, researchers have estimated more precisely than ever the heat-trapping effect of water in the air, validating the role of the gas as a critical component of climate change. [In other words water is what has a big effect on earth’s climate not CO2.]

          Andrew Dessler and colleagues from Texas A&M University in College Station confirmed that the heat-amplifying effect of water vapor is potent enough to double the climate warming caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere….

          “Everyone agrees that if you add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, then warming will result,” Dessler said. “So the real question is, how much warming?”

          The answer can be found by estimating the magnitude of water vapor feedback. Increasing water vapor leads to warmer temperatures, which causes more water vapor to be absorbed into the air. [There is the twisting of cause and effect used to make CO2 increases catastrophic.] Warming and water absorption increase in a spiraling cycle. [Adding in the fear component just in case you need to be hit by a hammer and completely neglecting the fact that the temperature on earth has upper bounds as seen in the geological record.]

          Water vapor feedback can also amplify the warming effect of other greenhouse gases, such that the warming brought about by increased carbon dioxide allows more water vapor to enter the atmosphere.

          “The difference in an atmosphere with a strong water vapor feedback and one with a weak feedback is enormous,” Dessler said. [Well at least he has that part correct.]

          Climate models have estimated the strength of water vapor feedback, but until now the record of water vapor data was not sophisticated enough to provide a comprehensive view of at how water vapor responds to changes in Earth’s surface temperature. That’s because instruments on the ground and previous space-based could not measure water vapor at all altitudes in Earth’s troposphere — the layer of the atmosphere that extends from Earth’s surface to about 10 miles in altitude….

          Andrew Dessler has a great career ahead of him as a used care salesman. Maybe he and Romm can work together.

    not related to this post but I have noticed that the arctic ice concentration image seems to have a cutoff at 35% in the last month or so. I thought it may have been a glitch but since it has been there a month I think it may be a feature.

        What I see missing in education is information about real nutrition, how to grow food, learning how to cook, and the relationship to disease. It is well understood by science now that deficiencies are one of the main causes of disease. Deficiencies lead to degeneration and can eventually bring death, including cancer. This can be taught starting in 1st grade.

        When I was in high school, only girls were allowed to take “home-EC”. Now I’m not even sure they teach it at all. A couple of our local schools have started garden programs, so that is a good start. Unfortunately, they don’t learn the full spectrum of nutrition or they learn the one-sided “dietician” version where synthetic vitamins are considered just as good as the real thing. They miss out on deeper understanding about vitamins and minerals and what are the best food sources. Food dogmas prevail and lead people down a dark path where they never understand why their kid just got diagnosed with cancer. Next thing we see are the fund raisers and the donation cans at the store for little Tommie or Suzy who has to go off to some far off treatment center and then dies anyway.

          The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) came up with the recommendation that America Should Adopt a ‘Plant-Based’ Diet. It recommends taxes on dessert, trained obesity “interventionists” at schools and worksites, and electronic monitoring of how long Americans sit in front of the television or computer. Medical groups are already data mining the internet for information on individual eating habits. The new Food Safety Modernization Act and Obamacare will be used as the weapons to transform American dietary habits to a more sustainable pattern of eating.

          This load of Bovine Feces is straight out of the mouth of Maurice Strong, a guy who never finished high school.

          In 1992, As Chairman Strong told the UN conference at Kyoto…

          “It is clear that current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class, involving high meat intake, consumption of large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and work place air conditioning, and suburban housing are not sustainable.”

          It is being ‘presented as a health issue by the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee as the excuse to ram radical changes down the throats of Americans. However it has nothing to do with health. There is certainly a lot of information in the scientific literature that shows humans need meat especially early in life if the brain is to develop fully.

          Rosa Koire has an even nastier look at the new dietary guidelines:

Calculations, such as those done recently at Cornell University, will determine how much food can be grown within that area and then the Transit Village population will be limited to the number of people who can be fed by that land. It is reasonable to expect rationing based on this mode….

          In the countryside ringing the Transit Village everyone lives in small units just big enough for the number of residents to have a bed and small sitting space. Bathrooms are communal. Water will be rationed no matter where you live. Energy is generated by recycling human waste (methane). Everyone works collectively since that is the most efficient, and food is produced on combine farms that ring the community. No animals are permitted that consume food that could be eaten by humans unless those animals are working. Because the food generated is seldom enough to feed everyone with sufficient calories, there is malnutrition and general exhaustion. Any surplus goods generated by the group are sold for a small profit to more urban areas which do not have food sheds sufficiently large enough to provide for their inhabitants….

          Interesting. But I see the problem as a general malaise and ignorance of the population. It’s a lack of critical thinking skills and common sense, laziness, apathy, ignorance, distractions, corporate influence in media and television programming, food religions and fad diets reinforced in grocery store magazines. That until someone they love is diagnosed with a terminal illness, then panic ensues and by that time it’s too late to think about how to get proper nourishment.

          Simple meat stocks and broths, liver and cod liver oil as part of a rounded diet and veggies (we are classified as omnivores, so eat everything) could literally save billions of dollars on unnecessary healthcare costs, but it is generally ignored and by our own Govt. as well, which has been heavily influenced by corporate input (ie, money). Or just eat like Anthony Bourdain (maybe a little lighter on the cocktails, but who am I to judge. Ha. I enjoy a gin and Campari myself!).

          I love the donation option now at the electronic grocery store checkout where you can give to the American Cancer Society, meanwhile I’m looking at the crappy food the person in front of me just bought devoid of any real nutrients, usually “low-fat” and “diet” this and that. Hilariously sad.

          As a Doctor at a party just commented to me, the only studies funded are those where the pharmaceutical companies can make money. (We were talking about Co-Q- 10)

          Now it will be even worse because thanks to Obummercare, Doctors can make money by ‘recommending’ or proscribing more drugs and get paid for it and thereby make up some of the loss revenue.
          A recent study of 334,000 physicians found that “when a drug company pays a doctor he is more likely to prescribe that company’s drug.”

          I recommend reading some books on basic nourishment that cut through all the confusion about nutrition: Nourishing Traditions and Nourishing Broth, both by Sally Fallon (she also has one on baby and children nutrition), Heal Your Gut Cookbook (intestinal health with GAPS diet) by Hilary Boynton and Mary Brackett, Back to Butter by Molly Chester and Sandy Schrecengost, Nourished Kitchen by Jennifer McGruther. These books are especially for those willing to get back in the kitchen. I found it takes patience, practice and time to learn some of this and get it into a daily routine, but it can be done. I’m living proof.

          I’ve had to heal from my own health issues but now am pain free and have had no tooth decay for 5 years (I previously lost a tooth to a painful abscess), perfect blood pressure, no medications, going on 52 years old. My sister healed from hepatitis C and cirrhosis by getting back to real food. She also was able to get off 18 medications all on her own (I didn’t encourage or discourage her, it was purely her decision). Her doctor was amazed at how her liver healed. She has a normal life again after more than 20 years of medical issues. Amazing.

          I don’t believe we need to understand everything about nutrition. It has become too complicated. Ancient cultures followed simple ideas and understood that without certain foods they became sick.

          Yes, I see how the big pharma has done a good job at pulling the wool over the world’s eyes. That’s a huge controversial topic. Some drugs are helpful, of course.

          I already do my own cooking for the most part and generally carry food to eat with me. The last time I went to a restaurant I was amazed at how very salty the food was even though it was broiled seafood and should not have been salty at all.

          Normally I stick to Hardees low carb burgers if I have to eat out. Lots of lettuce, onion and tomato and not much salt (680mg)

          For what it is worth all of the salt used in processed food is WITHOUT IODINE. This I think is a major problem for Americans. Sluggish metabolism, obesity, cancer, eye disease, diabetes, and heart disease and stroke to name just a few.

          ….the Salt Institute estimates that only about 70% of the table salt sold in the United States is iodized.

          Salt used in processed foods is not iodized. Given that people are cooking less at home and buying either restaurant or processed foods, iodine intakes in the U.S. have declined from about 250 μg/day to 157 micrograms/day.….

          Bromine, Iodine, Prostate and Breast Cancer
          ….It can be strange where a particular “data dive” might lead you. I was looking for some information on disinfectants, wandered down Iodine Lane, and ran into Bromine as a subtle metabolic poison. (It is nearly ubiquitous in brominated biphenyls and related fire retardants, also in your food…)

          Then there were the folks showing that too little Iodine and too much Bromine was causing cancer, adding a lot of Iodine to diets and leaching out the Bromine, sometime cured it (and always reduced rates).

          Many of the sites were of the “flakey holistic” mumbo jumbo sort; yet had references listed with folks having M.D. after their names. OK, it’s a fad in some quarters and will be hard to sort out reality from enthusiasm…

          But then there was that consistent statistic. Japanese have dramatically lower levels of breast cancer and significantly lower levels of prostate cancer; while having 25 times the dietary intake of Iodine (thanks to a lot of fish with much of it wrapped in high Iodine seaweed).

          It is hard to think “flaky story” when confronted with “existence proof”.

          Furthermore, Japanese who adopt a western diet, get western rates of breast cancer, so it isn’t genetic. Further furthermore, in the USA, the rates of cancers (several kinds) go up in the “goiter belt” where soil Iodine is low. Then there were the stories of folks cured with elevated Iodine intake….

          There is lots lots more with links and quotes. E.M. is quite through when he does a ‘Dig Here’ saves me the trouble.

          Yep, Iodine is a major deficiency. Have you heard of Lugol’s solution? It is a proper ratio of iodine and iodide, we need both. Bromine and flourine both inhibit iodine as they are all halogens. Good iodine will push out the other ones. Iodized salt is not necessarily a good source of it either because it lacks the iodide portion.

          As far as Hardees, the white bread is probably the biggest mistake! Do they have a sourdough option?

          Check out LocaL, they are trying to create a truly healthy fastfood with Rene Redzepi on their Board! Using sprouted grain bread.
