Hansen’s Massive 1988 Forecast Fails

In 1988,  James Hansen told Congress that the Midwest will have frequent episodes of very high temperatures in the current decades, predicted 3 to 9 degrees warming by 2025, and predicted 1 to 4 feet sea level rise by the middle of this century.

In fact, the exact opposite occurred. The frequency of hot days in the Midwest has plummeted over the past century, with 1988 being the last really hot summer.

Temperatures have risen just over 0.2 C since 1988, and that is mainly due to the current El Nino. Next year will probably be cooler than 1988. Hansen’s forecasts missed by more than 2000% so far.

NOAA says that sea level is rising 1.8 mm/year. That is a rise of less than two inches since 1988. Hansen’s forecasts missed by more than 1000% so far.

absolute global sea level rise is believed to be 1.7-1.8 millimeters/year.

Then these world class buffoons known as “climate scientists” went on to predict lowering of Great Lakes water levels.

Greta Lakes water levels are exactly the same as they were in 1988.

Hansen and his fellow alarmists have demonstrated repeatedly that they are completely incompetent and understand nothing about the climate. Yet governments push forward with mass insanity based on Hansen’s junk science.

It’s occurred to me if NASA did independent reviews of MAX and MIN, eventually MAX would be the new MIN and MIN would be the new MAX. Doesn’t quite fit the script though, so they obfuscate reality as much as possible.

    …….

Actually you have that backwards. World Leaders came up with a hobgoblin to scare the citizens with and government funded scientists were told to provide a cloak of sciency sounding gobbledigook to fool people with. ClimAstrologists have delivered and been well rewarded.

    Now we have
“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution… democracy is a poor political system for fighting global warming. Communist China is the best model.” — Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change

Followed by : Bill Gates Climate Rant: “Representative Democracy is a Problem”

    Not to mention Pascal Lamy

…climate change negotiations are not just about the global environment but global economics as well — the way that technology, costs and growth are to be distributed and shared…

Can we balance the need for a sustainable planet with the need to provide billions with decent living standards? Can we do that without questioning radically the Western way of life? …

The reality is that, so far, we have largely failed to articulate a clear and compelling vision of why a new global order matters — and where the world should be headed. Half a century ago, those who designed the post-war system — the United Nations, the Bretton Woods system, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) — were deeply influenced by the shared lessons of history.

All had lived through the chaos of the 1930s — when turning inwards led to economic depression, nationalism and war. All, including the defeated powers, agreed that the road to peace lay with building a new international order — and an approach to international relations that questioned the Westphalian, sacrosanct principle of sovereignty…

In the case it has yet not been posted here.

The global warming mafia has fired a french metereologist (Philip Verdier)
after he released the critical book about AGW-climate investigation.

    • Now they will all buy the book. Fired now, best seller later.

      • Zebo says:

Well, not if he was buried the silent way.
If they fire you in a spectacular or controversial way
than people will realise it and buy the book,
if they simply remove you and stiffle any debate about you
noone will know and only those guys will buy your book who’d have bought it anyway.

  4. My daughter’s boyfriend broke up with her and she is killing herself trying to understand why. I told her it was due to climate change, due to CO2. Now, she understands.

  5. Psalmon says:

This is my favorite (G)Nat Geo article on the Great Lakes. It has been proven wrong in so many places and so many ways, from lake levels, to average temperatures, ice coverage…

You gotta love “canary in the coal mine” (of global warming) references.

One thing people need to realize is that the Lakes’ governing body, the IJC, have taken aggressive action to drain Lake Superior back to normal levels. It rose so fast and so high that it threatened records and coastal flooding, so they opened the gates on the St Mary’s river to bring it down. Years from now we will hear how low it is again and nobody will remember how Man’s intervention was the cause.

    • DD More says:

Psalmon, I don’t think many people realize the max extent of Lake Superior is about 603.5′ elevation. Was at the Soo Locks on Labor Day, Sept 7th, and the lake level was about a foot from going over the locks walkway. That is also about the height of the diversion dam, leading to the 107-year-old Edison Sault Hydroelectric Plant.

No way to stop the water if lake is above that elevation.

How come when you reminded me about that Canary I heard Martin Smith saying “that’s good science”?

  6. tomwys1 says:

Watch for even scarier predictions as the Paris COP21 “Pre-Holoday Shopping Spree” unfolds, all to justify 1,000 Euro/night hotels and gastronomic excesses at Michelin rated restaurants!!!

You can be sure that Mr. Hansen was on the list of invitees!

    • Gail Combs says:

With luck they will completely over play their hand on the scarier predictions, although with the level of intelligence we see displayed by Martin and some of the other brain washed I doubt it.

  7. Marsh says:

Hansen should change his field of Science and stop pretending to be a Clairvoyant ;; his prediction fail ratio is appalling !
