Obama Sea Level Forecast Verification

On June 3, 2008 – Barack Obama announced what he would be talking to his children about in 90 years.

I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal

I’m 97% certain that his sea level forecast was wrong.

  1. Steve Case says:

I doubt that President Obama actually knew it, but according to data from Colorado University’s Sea Level Research Group, the rate of sea level rise was already slowing down. Today’s data

    taken up until 2008.434 (June 6th 2008) shows a deceleration of -0.02 mm/yr²

That factoid remains true today and really bothers Dr. R. Steve Nerem and his team at CU so much he put together this presentation

I’ve pasted up here more than a few times now. Here’s a screen shot

from the last page of that pdf.

Yes Virginia, Satellite data does show that the rate of sea level rise is not going up faster and faster every year. But you won’t hear that from NOAA, Al Gore, the IPCC or anyone else associated with the climate change industry.
