1771 was the year Captain Cook discovered Australia. It was also the year that the 500 year old Tyne Bridge in Newcastle collapsed from a massive flood “twelve feet above high water mark in spring tides”
Before the flood
After the flood

Had Captain Cook been outfitted with low carbon candles, this tragedy could have been prevented.
That was natural causes, the current flooding is caused by anthropogenic emissions of CO2. Why on earth can’t you understand that?
No Steve, this was after the Industrial Revolution so humans had filled the air with “carbon” by then.
@Steve Case –
Because I understand how CO2 works, you choose not to…..Why ??? that’s your business.
The current flooding is caused by among other things El-Nino, intense cold & a lot of ice at the N Pole, position of jet stream…….
He was being sarastic
On the Internet, you can’t really tell anymore. lol
This is simple. The current flood is consistent with scientific predictions for global warming, the flood of 1771 was not. Scientifically, it was a different kind of flood. How hard is it to understand?
The only open question is why did Sir Philip not follow the flood predictions of British government scientists? Instead if being onsite and ready in his wellingtons he was at his vacation home in Barbados which I understand is also a very warm place because of global warming. Something is afoot at the Environment Agency.
Evil white males were using the capitalist system to oppress women and enslave minorities going back many centuries. Mother earth in 1771 knew that she was getting raped and plundered in the name of capitalist greed, thus she had started fighting back!
Good article, Steve, but Capt Cook ‘discovered’ Australia in 1770 (Aug 22nd).
Ummm, just a small nit-pick Tony, Cook discovered OZ in 1770.
Bruce C got in before me ….. well done!
