The End of Science?

It has been almost two years since the New York Times announced the end of snow.

Tony, I liked your “Snake oil salesmen” line so much I’ve used it on my Twitter profile… hope you don’t mind.

YUCK, That dunce would not know what the scientific method is if it bit him in his fat ass.

I agree with Steven. Children just aren’t going to know what science is. We have seen sterling examples of that here lately.

US scientists significantly more likely to publish fake research, study finds

If you have a twitter account (and you are not blocked) You might want to send that to cheesy.

      • AndyG55 says:

Gail, a bit unfair. IIRC, John Cleese actually had a solid old-style British education with very good grades in the maths, physics and science., and actually taught science in prep school at one stage. He was no dunce in the science areas and science back then was taught “properly”

        • Gail Combs says:

If he had a solid science education like Lord Monckton he should be able to see through the crap. That means:
          1. He is too darn lazy to actually LOOK
          2. He KNOWS it is crud and is promoting CAGW for other reasons, like he is paid to or he is a Fabian who wants us in slave collars.

        • AndyG55 says:

Ok, seems that there must be more to this than his tweet.

The tweet seems very much on the sceptical side of the AGW religion.

I haven’t actually followed or read anything else he has said.

Its a sunny day here today, a big change from the last week or so….., so I will probably be elsewhere than on the computer looking stuff up.

a friend’s daughter was recently told she was being promoted to “permanent temporary” status in her job in NYC

Tony, you need to refer to the “New Progressive Dictionary” as to save yourself from confusion.

  4. Henry P says:

    Which John Cleese is that?
    Not the comedian?

  5. Morgan in Sweden says:

Today the temperature in Naimakka in the very North of Sweden was -42,8 degree C. Lowest temperatur recorded in Sweden since 1999.

  6. RAH says:

Those south of the Baltic in Europe are getting some colder weather also and there is even more to come if the models are correct. Time for global warming to move elsewhere, because I don’t think it’ll be showing up in the US or Europe for the next couple months. Guess they’ll have to talk about the Arctic some more.

    • Andy DC says:

It would appear based on the weather models that there is going to be widespread snow down to sea level over most of Europe during the next couple of weeks. Even much of the UK should experience significant snowfall.

      • Jason Calley says:

Hey Andy! I guess that “thing of the past” has fallen through a time portal. (Insert Dr. Who theme music here.)

  7. Jason Calley says:

Gavin Schmidt says that Texans will not listen to him because he is a New York, Jewish, atheist, liberal.

Yeah, that’s got to be it. It couldn’t possibly be because his “science” is not scientific, huh?

    • Frank K. says:

He’s not an atheist. He believes in the god of Global Warming…

    • Gail Combs says:

Gavin Schmidt is not a New Yorker either!

Gavin A. Schmidt is a climatologist, climate modeler and Director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, and co-founder of the award winning climate science blog RealClimate. Wikipedia
      Born: United Kingdom
Employer: Goddard Institute for Space Studies

  11. “The end of science” – you are probably far far too close for comfort. The global warming scam – was a scam. “Science” as in a bunch of numpties in academia pontificating about the world – could have got away with backing that scam 100 years ago, when they would just have rewritten the history books and push fed the gullible journalists with story after story blaming someone else for the scam (most likely the equivalent of us sceptics). But that just is not possible today.

And far from having the sense to realise that the internet exposed them to the massive risk of bringing the whole of “science” into disrepute, academic after academic jumped on the global warming bandwagon and claimed that “science says … global warming”.

Well, we’ve never been in this position before where almost the whole of the scientific hierarchy is about to be made a laughing stock (if as I predict 2016 see global cooling as the El Nino finishes). So this year we could well be entering totally uncharted territory and we might expect anything from the total humiliating collapse of “science” as a subject even with its “leaders” being taken away to “the penn” to total indifference as if nothing at all unusual were happening as global temperatures drop.

I don’t know if the end of global warming madness will be a significant event for “science”. I’m absolutely sure the “scientists” don’t know (they don’t know much do they) – so this could be one of the most interesting years – or it might be one of the most boring/frustrating years with nothing at all changing.

    • Gail Combs says:

I for one am throughly disgusted with academic science. I am further disgusted to see my university is turning out several of these scammers who go from bad to down right dangerous.

I am absolutely LIVID — Unspeakably angry — to see American universities using uninformed people as guinea pigs including children, some of whom they have killed (including my mother)

As far as I am concern I would like to see every single ‘institute of higher learning’ vetted with a microscope and the ones guilty of turning out scammers burned to the ground!

Better no education than wrong education.

    • BruceC says:

Unfortunately Scottish Sceptic, as you are well aware, those same ‘scientists’ that are now peddling the AGW scam will only turn it around to AGC due to aerosols or some other ‘pollutant’ they can come up with. Who knows, it could still be CO2 ‘what done it’.

They’re already doing it now by saying that the cooling from the ’40’s to the ’70’s was due to mans aerosol input …… instead of looking at the real, ‘natural’ causes.

just found your blog today from the desmog guys… loved the write-up they gave you!

    • Cowards who stab people in the back but too scared to actually talk to them.

    • AndyG55 says:

If you get reported by desmog, you KNOW you are on the correct side of the argument and in fact, the world.

Desmog is one of the lowest pieces of far-left excrement to ever infest the net.

DeSmogBlog is a smear site founded by a scientifically unqualified public relations man, James Hoggan and funded by a convicted money launderer, John Lefebvre. The irony here is their favorite tactic is to attempt to smear those they disagree with as funded by “dirty money”. Since it’s creation in 2006 the site has done nothing but post poorly researched propaganda with a clear intent to smear respected scientists, policy analysts or groups who dares oppose an alarmist position on global warming. Their articles frequently reference unreliable sources such as Wikipedia and Sourcewatch since they are unable to find any fact based criticisms of those they criticize in respected news sources.

        James Hoggan

        About Us (DeSmogBlog)

“The DeSmogBlog team is led by Jim Hoggan, founder of James Hoggan & Associates, one of Canada’s leading public relations firms.”

Who is James Hoggan? (Financial Post, Canada, June 5, 2008)

“So who is James Hoggan? He’s a public relations man, based in Vancouver. His firm, James Hoggan and Associates, is positioned as a feel-good local operation with clients in all the “right” public and private sectors. He also sits on the board of the David Suzuki Foundation.

One of his side efforts is a blog operated out of Hoggan and Associates. Funded by retired Internet bubble king John Lefebvre, the blog has one full-time and three part-time staff. They spend their time tracking down and maliciously attacking all who have doubts about climate change and painting them as corporate pawns.

There has been no mention on the blog, nor on The Fifth Estate, of James Hoggan’s client list. They include or have included the National Hydrogen Association, Fuel Cells Canada, hydrogen producer QuestAir, Naikun Wind Energy and Ballard Fuel Cells. Mr. Hoggan, in other words, benefits from regulatory policy based on climate change science.”

        John Lefebvre

        About Us (DeSmogBlog)

“The DeSmogBlog team is especially grateful to our benefactor John Lefebvre, a lawyer, internet entrepreneur and past-president of NETeller, a firm that has been providing secure online transactions since 1999.”

Blog Funder Guilty of Money-Laundering (Heartland Institute, February 1, 2008)

“John Lefebvre, the top financial benefactor of the DeSmog Blog, is facing substantial prison time after pleading guilty to federal money-laundering charges. The DeSmog Blog is operated by a small group of public relations people who specialize in attempting to discredit respected scientists and policy analysts who disagree with alarmist global warming theory. Ironically, DeSmog Blog’s favorite tactic is to claim scientists and policy analysts who disagree with alarmist global warming theory are funded by “dirty money.” The revelation of the blog’s major source of funding as a convicted money launderer may undermine DeSmog’s attempts to smear the integrity of respected, law-abiding scientists who disagree with them.”

Ex-NETeller exec pleads guilty in gambling case (Reuters, January 10, 2007)

“A former president and co-founder of payment processor NETeller pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a conspiracy charge related to handling billions of dollars in illegal gambling proceeds.“

NETeller ex-directors on money laundering charges (Reuters, January 16, 2007)

“Two former directors and founding shareholders of NETeller Plc [Stephen Lawrence, John Lefebvre], a British online money transfer company, have been charged in the United States with laundering billions of dollars in illegal gambling proceeds.

SPPI NOTE: Russell Cook details Sheldon Rampton’s highly troublesome ties to DeSmogBlog’s Ross Gelbspan in his articles, “How an Enviro-Advocacy Group Propped Up Global Warming in the MSM” and “Global Warming Nuisance Lawsuits Are Based on a Fatal Flaw“. Anti-skeptic book author Gelbspan has blogged at DeSmogBlog ever since its start back in January 2006, and is one of the central figures Cook details in his SPPI original paper, “Are Skeptic Scientists Corrupt? Or Does the Accusation Fall Apart Under Hard Scrutiny?“
