There is no legitimate basis for NASA and or NOAA to be tampering with this data, and they are rewriting history to suit a political agenda.

  1. Front page NYT today says a lot.
Below fold heart tug picture for green heart throbs.
Below that a tiny link about a black college left without budget …..
Worldwide Green Slime has punished the poor by spending billions on cocktail party credentials.

  2. Serendipity you should mention Iceland! Looter ideology coalesced in 1848, with riots, commie manifesto. Was there not a volcanic eruption a year or two earlier that spread ash all over Europe, damaging crops, making food scarce? If so, might not this entire religion of coercive redistribution be a weather-related phenomenon?

False pride, blind arrogance and “consensus science” isolated humanity from ancient reality, e.g., of Native Americans:

  7. cdqgfj says:

How come Iceland glaciers have started losing mass?

    • pmc47025 says:

According to this study melting peaked in the 30s and 40s, before my Galaxie belched enough CO2 to destroy the planet.

“While the glaciers showed little mass loss as the 20th century began, losses increased rapidly after 1925, peaked in the 1930s and 1940s, and remained significant until the 1960s. After being near-zero or even positive during the 1980s and early 1990s, glacier mass budgets declined considerably, and have since the mid-1990s shown an average annual loss of 9.5±1.5 Gt a−1”

      http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/grl.50278/full

    • RAH says:

They have not just “started” losing mass. According to DMI they have been generally losing mass because of the retreat of their termini since the beginning of the 20th century.
” Most of the measured termini of glaciers in Iceland have been retreating during the 20th century (Sigurðsson, 2005). ”

      http://www.dmi.dk/fileadmin/Rapporter/DKC/dkc08-06.pdf

    • gator69 says:

How come Iceland glaciers have started losing mass?

Because we are in an interglacial. And the proper way to ask your question is, “Why are Iceland glaciers losing mass?”.

      • cdqgfj says:

Oh, I thought that this interglacial had it’s warmest times about 8000 years ago and that temeratures were already cooling…until AGW started for real. Go figure.

        • gator69 says:

Let me try to explain it to you as I would a child, and maybe you will get it.

If I take an ice cube out of my freezer and place it on my counter at 50F it will melt. Right? Now let’s say I turn down the heat, and the ice cube sits on my counter at 40F. Will it still melt?

          Think hard brainiac.

        • AndyG55 says:

Biomarkers show that the Arctic was often totally ice free for much of the first 3/4 of the Holocene.

The only reason there is currently so much Arctic sea ice is that its still trying to recover from the LIA which was the coldest period in the last 10,000 years

    • AndyG55 says:

      1. AMO
      2. Volcanism
      3. Natural cycles.
      4. Stop being an ignorant twit.

      • cdqgfj says:

“Natural cycles”? That argument can be used to explain anything, so it really not worth much. Which cycles, caused by what, when?

        • AndyG55 says:

A study was done on some Glaciers in Mt Baker.

There is also the AMO here , against Reykjavik Temperatures.

Interestingly, if you turn the first graph the right way, its almost and exact match for the second

so yes.. NATURAL cycles caused by the ocean oscillations.

        • AndyG55 says:

And yes, NATURAL cycle can easily explain basically everything to do with so-called global warming. No other explanation needs to be invented

        • AndyG55 says:

Also the FACT that human artefacts , and trees stumps have been discovered under retreating glaciers….. doesn’t that tell you something??

        • gator69 says:

It is so precious watching the ethically challenged display their double standards…

Which cycles, caused by what, when?

Notice that this troll never asks his high temperature priests those same questions. The troll eagerly ingests holy excrements offered by the Trillion Dollar Climate Industry clerics, and swallows them whole, never questioning what is in them. The it comes here and simply regurgitates, bleating through its cud.

  8. Farmer Frank says:

I always LMAO when someone so ignorantly asks ‘why is the glacier/ice retreating???’ (implying you are so stupid, to be a Warming Denier).

My reply, “Well Ignoramus, for the same reason my cows die if you don’t feed them”.

To which I always get a totally blank stare, proving to me they are not scientists, know nothing of glaciers, and have no common sense, or any other kind of sense.

Glaciers are living, moving, feeding entities. (blank stares)
They require tremendous amounts of fall-winter-spring freezing precipitation (hundreds of feet of snow), in order to create tens of feet of ice. (blank stares)
Heavy thick Ice then migrates from high to low, melting or calving at the termination point .
    (“but it’s melting!”)
No, Ignoramus, glaciers don’t live in the city, they live at high altitudes, and/or high latitudes. Where temperatures range into the -40’s and lower. A 2-3 degree warming spell, means it is now -37 degrees, below zero. a 15 degree above-normal hot spell, means it would be -25 degrees, below zero….. Still not sunbathing temps, you city slicker.
“but Global Warming is causing melting!”

At which point I sigh and walk away… You can’t fix stupid.

It would be SO fun, to chain a liberal, naked, to a glacier for a few hours, to teach them the difference between armchair comfortable warm, and Nature’s Reality show, in person 🙂

    • It was German National Socialists who called capitalists “liberals” with that snarl picked up by Republicans after the Landslide of 1932. What we have is a superstitious prohibitionist party (GOP) unqualified to discuss even 19th Century science and eager to bully pregnant girls and jail their boyfriends over hemp seeds. This–not science absent from government schools–is what causes mob to wish us dead. We are known by the company we keep, and as long as we flock together with Conservative National Socialists we will reap what they deserve.

    • cdqgfj says:

Did you ever talk to a live breathing glaciologists or are you basing your opinions on quote-mining the internets?

  9. Scarface says:

Thank you for all your time and effort. Thanks to you I keep hope that one day the Global Warming BS will be put to rest once and for all.

  10. Baa Humbug says:

Haha you suckers in the Northern Hemisphere are going to fall off the planet (or sommin)

Earth Is Tipping Because of Climate Change

    That’s from the (un)Scientific American

    http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/earth-is-tipping-because-of-climate-change1/

  11. I am not sure a holdup is all that political an agenda.

  12. rachase says:

The ultimate global answer to the “why are things warming” question is the fact that we are in an interglacial warm period that started about 11,000 years ago (the last glacial maximum was about 22,000 years ago, and the earth’s climate has been slowly warming every since–hence the disappearance of the thick ice sheets that once covered a large portion of North America and Eurasia.) We are in the Quaternary Ice Age. In this ice age there have been glacial periods with intervening interglacial warm periods such as we are in now. The cold glacial periods have been some 70,000+ years in length, the warm interglacial periods only a short 10,000-30,000 years. Given the history of the earth another cold spell of many tens of thousands of years in in our not-too-distant (geologically speaking) future. And since it appears that the relationship between CO2 and atmospheric temperature is logarithmic, the alleged impending increase in the former by nasty humans will not be a sufficient barrier to a whole bunch of new glaciation.

  13. cdqgfj says:

So how come this interglacial is not cooling any longer, but is actually warming up? I though we were supposed to be slowly descending to the next ice-age within the next 2000 years?

    • AndyG55 says:

      “but is actually warming up”

Not really .. Its sort of stopped apart from El Nino events. (Solar/cloud/wind forced)

There was very little warming in the only reliable data (started 1979 before the 1998 El Nino) Ignore Giss, HadCrut etc.. they are monumentally flawed.

It has cooled slightly since 2001 at the culmination of the last major El Nino.

The 2010 La Nina/ El Nino twin had no effect on the trend.

Now this current El Nino + blob (maybe underwater volcanic)

It remains to see where it settles after this current El Nino.

      • cdqgfj says:

Earth is warming up, especially when the oceans (that are rising) are counted as well, as they should be. Greenland and WAIS have started to lose mass more and more rapidly and northern sea ice volume will again be flirting with post-LIA minimums this summer.

        • gator69 says:

Please show us exactly how much the oceans have warmed, and where.

        • Neal S says:

You will make sure to let us know when there are substantial numbers of large cargo vessels navigating the northwest passage regularly without lots of icebreakers to accompany them.

        • AndyG55 says:

“will again be flirting with post-LIA minimums this summer.”

Did you even bother reading what you said? idiot.

so before the COLDEST period in the last 10,000 years, there was less sea ice..

In fact, during the first 3/4 of the Holocene there was often ZERO summer sea ice..

…that means that….. there is an ENORMOUS amount MORE now than there was then.

        • AndyG55 says:

Arctic sea ice is almost exactly where one would expect it to be for the phase of the AMO.

AMO is just over its peak at around 2006.

Arctic sea ice is just starting to increase since about 2006.

There is absolutely NOTHING unusual happening with Arctic sea ice.

A tiny very local blob of the WAIS is warming.. they have found volcanoes under this area, and in fact one particular area on the peninsular is so warm that people swim in it without a wetsuit.

The Icelandic magma bulb that causes the Icelandic volcanoes has been more active recently. That blob extends under the ONLY part of Greenland that shows any significant melting. The surface is actually gain depth quicker than previous years.

        • AndyG55 says:

Antarctica itself, according to the Zwally paper, is actually gaining mass, to be expected when you notice its cooling slightly.

  14. On March 2, 2016 the N.W.T. Department of Transportation increased the weight limit on the ice road to Déline over Great Bear Lake crossing from 10,000 kg to 40,000 kg. Four days later a fuel truck fell through the ice, presumably because the Arctic is “absurdly warm” and “screaming”, as scientists keep telling us.

    http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/articles/truck-breaks-through-ice-road-after-weight-limit-increase/64637

”The Déline access road is the only road connection between the community, located on the shore of Great Bear Lake, and the Sahtu winter road system. The Déline road historically closes around the end of March.”

Crews were reportedly spraying water into cracks and spaces around the truck to “freeze it in place”. It was not immediately clear what made the water freeze in the overheated Arctic environment.

Progressive science fans reached a consensus that a giant metaphor crashed through the ice and that the symbolism “will not be lost on anyone who follows news from the scientific community about climate change”.

Well, OK, then. We wouldn’t want to deny science.

    • cdqgfj says:

Antarctica is losing mass, the Zwally paper is most probably incorrect, ask any of the 15+ groups doing ice-sheet mass-balance. Trusting the Zwally-paper because it agrees with your preconceptions is cherrypicking.

ps. Zwally used only altimetry to get his result, which does not agree with gravity-measurements

pps. this might soon be an academic question since WAIS is losing mass in a quadratically accelerating fashion

      • cdqgfj says:

Greenland is losing mass close to many outlet glaciers, not only in the northeast.. A volcanic hotspot cannot explain that at all.

      • AndyG55 says:

“the Zwally paper is most probably incorrect,”

That is a seriously STUPID statement.

Of course the climate glitterati choose to ignore facts.

Grace has been proven wrong on many occasions , because the changes in volcanic magma have a HUGE effect of gravity field.

        • cdqgfj says:

GRACE, laser-altimetry, radar-altimetry and the input-output method that uses SAR and a weather-model all agree with one another. As these methods are largely independent so it’s “bloody unlikely” that they are all “wrong” in the same way.

        • AndyG55 says:

“input-output method that uses SAR and a weather-model all agree with one another.”

          ROFLMAO….. agree with which model.????

        • AndyG55 says:

The Antarctic is COOLING as shown by real data.

Taking one tiny area that happens to be warming and pretending its caused by GLOBAL anything is really the height of stupidity… which you seem to be able to reach quite easily.

If one part is actually warming, then the rest must be cooling even faster than the total.

Everywhere but that small circular volcanic disturbed region is getting COLDER and INCREASING in mass.. just as Zwally’s paper shows.

        • AndyG55 says:

          Oh look.

Greenland mass balance, well above average

If its melting, its melting from the bottom.. so NOT anything to do with atmospheric warming.

      • AndyG55 says:

This is the fools idea of GLOBAL warming

  15. cdqgfj says:

Wake me up when the Arctic Sea Ice is increasing again, it looks like the “recovery” touted in skeptic circles is not doing very well.

    • AndyG55 says:

You are already brain-dead… how are we meant to wake you ?

Arctic sea ice is performing exactly as expected from the NATURAL cycles.
This year, and El Nino year, its been affected by the warm blob over the top of Russia (and I say warm, even though its still like, -20 to -30 C). The guys up there have really enjoyed it against the -30 to -40 they usually get.

  16. cdqgfj says:

Global weather models are used daily to produce the weather-forecasts everyone is using. Are you not using weather-forecasts??

    • AndyG55 says:

Yes.. on a 50/50 basis , if that. over a maximum of 2-3 days.

      • cdqgfj says:

Bullshit, look at the ECMWF forecast skill, forecasts are doing way better than that on average.

And in this case people can do hindcasting so the errors are again way smaller. Don’t say no to physics!

  17. cdqgfj says:

The pattern on mass-loss (actually surface height loss) on the ice-sheets is visible here:

    http://www.the-cryosphere.net/8/1539/2014/tc-8-1539-2014.pdf

    Figures 10 and 11.

  18. AndyG55 says:

    roflmao…. Second sentaence of abstract

“Based on 3 years of CryoSat-2 data acquisition we derived new elevation models (DEMs)”

So 3 years of data… roflmao.

    New models… roflmao even more.

FFS idiot, read stuff before you post.. and ENGAGE YOUR BRAIN. !!

  19. cdqgfj says:

You are plotting Greenland SMB = Surface Mass Balance, not the total mass balance.. Looks like you are as out of your depth as the denialosphere…

    • AndyG55 says:

      Yawn

Gaining mass from the top.. thanks for confirming that.

So it must be losing mass from the bottom if its losing it.

Now you have to explain how losing mass from the bottom can be related to atmospheric temperature.

Go ahead, bozo, but don’t forget your floaties.

      • cdqgfj says:

Greenland and WAIS are losing mass in an accelerating manner. Fact.

        • AndyG55 says:

That tiny little volcanic point in WAIS, while the rest of Antarctica GAIN ice?

is that really all you have

Greenland is NOT losing ice.. its surface is gaining ice as DMI clearly shows.

Where is it losing ice.. from underneath? If so, how.

  20. gator69 says:

We use data acquired in the period from 2003 to 2009 from
the Geo-science Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) on board
NASA’s Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat)
to validate the final CryoSat-2 DEMs as well as to derive
dh / dt for comparison. The ICESat data set GLA12 release
33 (Zwally et al., 2011) were used for this study. All surface
elevations were referenced to WGS84 and corrected
for saturation and an error in the range determination from
transmit-pulse reference selection (centroid vs. Gaussian, G–
    C) (Zwally, 2013; Borsa et al., 2013). A cloud filter was
applied using internal data flags with thresholds given in
Pritchard et al. (2009) and Kwok et al. (2007). The intercampaign
offsets were determined for the release 33 data following
Ewert et al. (2012a) and are listed in Table 1 (H. Ewert,
    personal communication, 2013).

😆 So Zwally is golden when he is useful to the alarmists, and a know nothing denier when he doesn’t.

And didn’t I just see that the data used is at least seven years old? And only seven years of data total? And models?😆

Once again, if you cannot measure it, you cannot claim it.

    • AndyG55 says:

Yes, if you read further than the first couple of sentences, it gets even more bizarre and irrelevant.. This is what cfunt uses as a reference. DOH !!!

      brain-washed , until brain dead.

  21. cdqgfj says:

Andy altimetry-data from 1992 shows the same thing…and shows when the ice-loss accelerated. So read up, you might learn something!

    • AndyG55 says:

      from how long ago..

and you still haven’t learnt to dog paddle?

    • AndyG55 says:

Tell me, child-mind.. when will be back to the stage when the Vikings were able to grow enough crops on Greenland to have a reasonably large settlement survive for a few hundred years at least?

Even with modern tech there is absolutely no chance of doing that now.. Even the small farms there routinely have to import fodder from Denmark to survive.

History is NOT a friend to the rabid AGW alarmist.

  22. cdqgfj says:

Greenland is losing mass via increased calving of accelerating ice streams. This reduces ice-mass close to the coasts which is easily visible with altimetry and GRACE (which has a crappy resolution though).

  23. AndyG55 says:

History shows us that the LIA added a LOT of ice to the Arctic and particularly Greenland, making Greenland all but uninhabitable

The current state of Greenland, and the finding of settlements under the SMALL amount of ice that does occasionally melt, shows us that ONE HECK OF A LOT of that LIA ice is still there. !!!

Places like Greenland have come NOWHERE NEAR to recovering from the bitter, devastating cold and ice of the LIA.

    • cdqgfj says:

Sure the ice sheet has inertia so reacting to the temperature-change in atmosphere and ocean takes time. Currently both Greenland and WAIS are NOT in balance as evidenced by ice-loss and reductions in ice sheet thickness.

      • AndyG55 says:

WAIS has NOTHING to do with “global” anything

Greenland is gaining surface mass and still has way way more ice than when the Vikings were farming it.

There is absolutely nothing unusual with Greenland calving off glaciers as the surface mass increases.

      • AndyG55 says:

Greenland still has a long way to go before it has fully recovered from the LIA.

Another case where WARMING IS GOOD.. FREEZING IS BAD.

Or would you wish on them that Greenland starts to refreeze?

      • AndyG55 says:

And of course PIOMAS clearly shows what is happening with Arctic sea ic since the peak of the AMO.

      • AndyG55 says:

And is pretty much exactly where one would expect it to be considering the current position of the AMO. Just below the 1sd value. for the upward leg of the AMO from 1981-2000

  24. wardadam83 says:

It seems odd that the same data could produce such different results. It’s as if this discipline does not rely on sound math or logic. May be why climate scientists are never right, and also why they cannot figure that out.
