Restoring The Climate Of 1974

CO2 was at very safe levels in 1974. That was the year when Nixon resigned, as well as a few other things.

Another Ice Age?

Monday, June 24, 1974

In Africa, drought continues for the sixth consecutive year, adding terribly to the toll of famine victims. During 1972 record rains in parts of the U.S., Pakistan and Japan caused some of the worst flooding in centuries. In Canada’s wheat belt, a particularly chilly and rainy spring has delayed planting and may well bring a disappointingly small harvest. Rainy Britain, on the other hand, has suffered from uncharacteristic dry spells the past few springs. A series of unusually cold winters has gripped the American Far West, while New England and northern Europe have…

  1. John Shade says:

Gosh, we were not even at 350ppm back then! It was more like 330ppm. How can that be? Oh no! It means that even 330ppm is not safe, let alone 350. So how come we’re still here talking like this? Shouldn’t we be out doing some scavenging or something?

  2. Billy Liar says:

I think we’ll be very safe at 180ppm.
    There’ll be nothing to damage!
No crops, no trees, no houses, no people – just ice.

  3. Peter Wilson says:

You forgot Cyclone Tracy, which devastated Darwin on Xmas Day 1974

  4. Eliza says:

Keep it up Steve real good work. I hope you keep ALL your climate postings for posterity when these AGW @#@#### go to jail or court or to hell LOL

  5. Andy DC says:

If you want a perfect climate, you have to go back to when there were no evil white males.

  6. tckev says:

The year Jerry Ford entered office, well assume the presidency without having been previously voted into either the presidential or vice presidential office. Ford issued Proclamation 4311, which gave Nixon a full and unconditional pardon for any crimes he committed against the United States while President.
After a fraught administration he lost the presidential election to Democrat Jimmy Carter.

    Oh what days those were.

  7. Rosco says:

What I am concerned about is indoctrination of the young by academia.

If we teach generations that the greenhouse effect is fact, stifle any questioning of the validity of the theory, and not encourage examination of these events from the past in relation to the theory we are entering an age where for the first time since the dark ages the intellectual ability of humanity could decrease.

    • I don’t see it as a problem with humanity so much as with the US and a few other countries. Fortunately, we have lots of foreign talent in the US to keep things running and don’t have to rely on intellectually crippled American youth.

  8. Rosco says:

The damage Tracy did was compounded by the “cry wolf” syndrome.

In December 74 the residents of Darwin were subjected to a few false alarms about cyclone events.

When the warning about Tracy came everyone basically ignored it thinking another false alarm wasn’t going to spoil Christmas Eve.
