Who you gonna believe, a non-peer reviewed railroad engineer like Pachauri, or premier peer reviewed climatologist Ben Santer who stated that 17 years is enough to separate signal from noise?

If you read his newest paper, co-authored with 20+ researchers, he admits the models have already failed. The only place that is consistent with model projections on the planet is the Arctic.

And as we see from their pdf, the vertical volume transformations in density, pressures, velocities and temperature are not well understood.
In other words, the “working hypothesis” is in need of more funding to improve the understanding.
I have the feeling that he is looking for a way out, now that even the people surrounding him, see the coming period of cooling- which any Rational person already knows about.
He is not looking for a way out. There is no way out for him. He is trying buy more time by bullshitting.
Pretty much excludes mainstream climate science at the 95% confidence level.

No wonder the IPCC gets so much wrong.
What he said is more or less correct. But the problem is that while what’s happening in the Arctic is approximately “consistent with” the GCM’s, the GCM’s are not “consistent with” what’s been happening everywhere else on the planet.
Every idiot knows that no temperature change can be entirely consistent with exploitation of the planet by greedy white capitalist pigs.
I must be missing something, shouldn’t that be accumulation this northern WINTER and record melt last SUMMER?
“Rational” infers a logical thought process and an ability to discern the difference between illusion/falsehood and truth. The world (and the IPCC) is severly lacking rational people. Most are too busy watching TV or facebooking.

Yhis movement will not fade. There is a reason they went from CAGW, to climate change and now to “extreme events” which like the warming, and like the predicted SL rise, are also non existent as far as any trend. But extreme events provide plenty of ink to be exploited every time it occurs. Look at the Obama admin, now going full boar into climate change.
Let’s put it this way. The David Appell’s of this world won’t change their minds and they are not going anywhere; only more and more people will ignore them over time.
(The only point about Obama is that the US government is desperate to increase tax revenues because the US is technically bankrupt. A broad based consumption tax that doesn’t alienate the democratic voting base is really too good an opportunity to pass over for him.)

He received a large grant to “further research” the problem. It would be difficult for him to admit he was wrong and there isn’t a problem. He’d be under some pressure to give the money back I suppose.
The rate is truly astonishing. It’s low and at times unaccountably negative.
Now if only they had more money to research …
