What makes an alarmist? They tend to be ‘joiners’, just like good little communists, they band together and chant. Gavin must be assuming that since air temperatures in the region just went above freezing that the melt just started. Ice melts mostly from the bottom up. By the time the temperature reaches 0C, the ice has already thinned considerably because the air is not cold enough to keep it frozen at great depth.
But we are going to need a whole new series of “ice free arctic” predictions now.
Not remembering dates is one of the signs of cognitive decline.

What our Gav means is that this is the date which the warm-mongers start getting interested in Arctic Ice because we are approaching the minimum. Once it starts freezing again they loose all interest in Arctic ice.
They lost interest in Anrtarctic ice a few years ago – since it started increasing.
I’m very concerned with Antarctic Ice extent. If it keeps growing at current rates it will reach Perth before the end of the century!!! Can you northern hemisphere guys share some of that angry CO2 so we can get the ice going the other way. It was an unprecedented 1 degree at 7 am at Jandakot this morning!!

Anyone who believes that CO2 controls Earths Temperature like a thermostat, not to mention thinks they have models that have any meaning at all in the real world is either a complete moron nutter, or is a scam artist perpetuating a lie. I think it may be possible that Gavin is both.
