The high of 2010 failed to break through the high of 1998, which may turn you chart going forward into a head and shoulders pattern, meaning within the next several years temperatures will be back around the 1978 – 1980 numbers. But, perhaps you would prefer the IPCC’s darling, HadCrut datasets instead? Both HadCrut3 and adjusted HadCrut4 data tells us a cooling trend that began 2001:

Global temperature datasets around the world confirm that Elementary school children have never lived on this planet while it was in a warming phase. While a couple datasets do show a flat trend, the majority of them show cooling.

johnny, the source of the climate data Steve provided is Remote Sensing Systems (RSS); I provided two additional sources above–one NASA GISS (GISTEMP) and the other from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia (HadCrut3), which has been the preferred climate data used by the UN IPCC. It doesn’t get more objective than that. It is what it is–the earth has been cooling since 2001-2002.
