Gaia Is Truly Merciful – Grants Earth A 25 Year Reprieve From Climate Doom

In 1986, our top scientists said that we would pass the lethal tipping point of 2 degrees by 2010, and fry at 8 degrees warming by 2030 – with almost five feet of sea level rise.

June 11, 1986

Dr. James E. Hansen of the Goddard Space Flight Center’s Institute for Space Studies said research by his institute showed that because of the ”greenhouse effect” that results when gases prevent heat from escaping the earth’s atmosphere, global temperatures would rise early in the next century to ”well above any level experienced in the past 100,000 years.” Steeper Rise in Next Century

Average global temperatures would rise by one-half a degree to one degree Fahrenheit from 1990 to 2000 if current trends are unchanged, according to Dr. Hansen’s findings. Dr. Hansen said the global temperature would rise by another 2 to 4 degrees in the following decade.

While the effect of small increases in global temperature is now unclear, Andrew Maguire, vice president of the World Resources Institute, a Washington research and policy group, said that the doubling of atmospheric carbon dioxide that is foreseen would cause a rise of 3 to 8 degrees in temperature by the 2030’s. He said this would devastate agriculture in the United States and elsewhere, and would cause a rise in sea level of some 4.5 feet as polar ice melted.

So basically, we have been extinct for the past four years. But Gaia is merciful, and has granted us a 25 year reprieve. We now have until 2035 to save the planet.

Apr 14, 2014

Former president Mary Robinson said this morning global leaders have “at most two decades to save the world”.

  1. Brian G Valentine says:

The EU will be completely devastated by 2035 on the trajectory of their current climate policies, I am certain of that.

Does the whole EU have to become a Greek welfare tragedy before reversing course?

    • Gail Combs says:

The USA is not much better off.

Peter Schiff, an economist says if the USA was in the EU she would get kicked out because of the GDP/debt ratio. He is predicting a major collapse as the dollar gets torpedoed.

  2. Psalmon says:

The lunatics have hanged themselves with their own rope! There is a table of their cost-benefit circulating. Here is an example:

    http://news.yahoo.com/main-climate-change-want-pay-155048848.html

Here’s the rope. Since 1980, satellite measured temps have risen +0.2 deg C while CO2 has risen from 335ppm to almost 400, but then they show 450 at +2 deg C:

    – So in the first 65 ppm we got +0.2 deg C
    – But in the next 50 ppm we should get +1.8 deg C
    – After that the next 200 ppm yields + 1 deg C and the next 350, +1 deg C (or 70 per +0.2 deg C again)

    Conclusions:
    >CO2 sensitivity spikes hugely and then drops closer to today’s sensitivity (so no runaway temps)
    >We must have already neared +2 deg C mark, so we are already incurring most of the cost now
    >There is no benefit to stopping it, since the damage and impact of more CO2, drop off steadily

Now, make sure that’s snug, and….jump.

    • To get real ratios , absolute temperature must be used . There is no evidence of any spike in sensitivity to CO2 . The total temperature change talked about over the century is on the order of 0.3% , from perhaps 288k to 288.8 . As Lindzen points out this is all over barely above noise level variations .

  3. R. Shearer says:

    Close enough for government work.

  4. Pathway says:

The problem is that global leaders can’t find their own ass.

  5. B says:

Global warming is like a slow moving doomsday cult. It’s going through all the steps and phases but instead of running its course in a few years it’s taking decades. The problem with doomsday cults is how they end. Then again it’s often difficult to tell a cult and religion apart. Maybe it’s just a religion with a typical end-of-days myth.

    • Peter Yates says:

I guess CAGW is a *type* of ‘Destructive Religious Cult’. .. “Destructive Religious Cults are associated with a particular religious practice, belief or system of rituals.”
Further: .. “Destructive *Apocalyptic* Cults promote fear and paranoia along with unfounded predictions that the world is about to end. They *may* be distinguished from apocalyptic religions in that the former utilizes abuse, exploitation and mind control methods.”
… from a book called: ‘Cult and Ritual Abuse: Its History, Anthropology, and Recent Discovery in Contemporary America’ by James Randall Noblitt and Pamela Sue Perskin.
      An extract is here :-

I am reminded of this paragraph that was written for the 2012 end-of-world deception :-
(I have changed ‘2012’ to ‘CAGW’.)
… “The descriptions in the article seemed very much like the Apocalypse scenes described by various religious leaders. It was actually one person’s prediction for the ‘disasters’ doomsayers think will begin on December 21, 2012. Is it perhaps a coincidence that the religious scenes and the ..[CAGW].. scenes are very similar? Maybe the ..[CAGW].. video, book, and website publishers are not as secular as they like to think — maybe they are the leaders of a new pseudo-religious movement? Stranger things have happened. The leaders (as described in the article, and as seen in documentaries) are definitely very enthusiastic about their favorite subject – despite having zero evidence to backup their claims. The movement could be described as being largely based on *blind faith*. [.. to believe in something without having any evidence.] The audience for the claims and theories seem to accept them as automatically being proved, and there appears to be no need for scientific ‘peer’ reviews, or scientific debates and discussion of alternative theories. (The title of the article is very suspicious – “2012 — The End of the World, or A New Beginning?”. Surely that is just another way of describing the favorable changes that devout people expect during the Second Coming.)”

  6. Llanero says:

    Gaia akbar!

  7. Andy Oz says:

I’m pissed off with these CAGW charlatans who can’t make up their mind.
I’ve been continuously rescheduling my end of the world parties, to the point where no-one believes that I’m gonna hold one!! People get very angry when you invite them to a big party, and then it’s cancelled at the last minute.
At least Marshall Applewhite kept his word!!!
