US Government Agencies Just Can’t Stop Lying

For the ocean, the August global sea surface temperature was 0.65°C (1.17°F) above the 20th century average of 16.4°C (61.4°F). This record high departure from average not only beats the previous August record set in 2005 by 0.08°C (0.14°F), but also beats the previous all-time record set just two months ago in June 2014 by 0.03°C (0.05°F).

Global Analysis – August 2014 | State of the Climate | National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)

Complete bullshit. The oceans were much warmer in August 1998.

More of the southern oceans were below normal than were above normal in August, 2014.

what’s even ‘odder’….is that the oceans got the hottest on both poles….right next to the too much ice

    • Ernest Bush says:

In the case of the North Pacific, the better to feed warm moist air over the northern U.S. and Canada for another snowy winter as it impacts the cold Arctic Air via the circumpolar vortex. All it needs is a blocking high off the coast of California to prevent the moisture from reaching the Southwest, and Yuma, AZ, is set for another 80-degree daily max temperature winter. Meanwhile California will continue to suffer from drought.

BTW, in case you are feeling sorry for all those idiots with money to burn (building houses in the middle of California forests), consider this: forest fires are part of a natural cycle out west. It is nature’s way of clearing old, bug infested, and/or diseased trees out of the way for new growth. Many pine seeds will not germinate until they feel the heat of a forest fire. If you want healthy forests they should be left alone. Living there is a privilege that nature may revoke on short notice.

      • bit chilly says:

” It is nature’s way of clearing old, bug infested, and/or diseased warmists” and long may it continue.

        • Gail Combs says:

          +1

Any idiot who lives in a forest or on a flood plain is asking for a Darwin award.

Why the heck do you think I have goats? Keeps the brush in the forest nicely trimmed.

        • mjc says:

One of the problems, especially in places like CA, is the host of regulations about what you can/can’t do on your forest land. Often these regulations are in direct opposition, so if you follow ‘local’ regs and create fire breaks, you’ll be open to fines for ‘destroying habitat’ for some obscure critter.

It takes a bit of something that is definitely lacking in modern society to live in a forest…common sense.

    • Send Al To The Pole says:

      …rotten ice is really toasty…

  2. gettimothy says:

Is your twitter handle @RealScienceCom ?

The Real-Science.com link on the twitter profile page , points to some chinese site.

I would love to start tweeting your website in response to some of the b.s. out there.

    cheers.

    @gettimothy

  3. philjourdan says:

But you forgot to HOMOGENIZE the temperatures. That always, ALWAYS causes current temperatures to go up, and past temperatures to go down.

  4. Trendy Denier says:

You are full of shit, go back to your cave.

  5. keith says:

Steve can we destroy this myth that fresh water melt is causing record Antarctic sea ice growth,Sick to death that the GW scare mongers are getting away with this rubbish!

  6. gator69 says:

I know when my temperature goes up a whopping .08C, it’s time to dial 911, panic and raise taxes. And don’t give me that error bar BS, I know a catastrophe when I see it. Now if I could just find that deed to my new bridge in Brooklyn…

    • Stan Laurel: That’s the first mistake we’ve made since that fellow sold us the Brooklyn Bridge.
Oliver Hardy: Buying that bridge was no mistake. That’s going to be worth a lot of money to us some day.

  7. A C Osborn says:

Just look at how much cooler practically the whole world is in 2014 compared to 1998.

  8. Frank K. says:

Question – so if we excluded the poles, how would the average temperatures rank? If the “record” relies on the poles, then there is really NO way to confirm this given the sparse amount of historical data available for the polar regions.

  9. Skynet says:

Event the current temperatures are ‘modeled’. Might as well call NAsa/NOaa the Ministry of Science.

    • Frank K. says:

Yes, I read about the new record sea ice extent in Antarctica. But NOT in the MSM – they are too afraid it will upset the climate “happening” next week (groovy, baby!).

      • Frank K. says:

Whoops – actually, the groovy communist climate “happening” is this weekend! It’s like, far out man…

        • Gail Combs says:

Unfortunately Sunday is the one day this weekend that will be hot. In the 60s for Friday and in the 80s for Sunday but they are saying a thunderstorm possible. Monday is back into the 60s.

  10. Chewer says:

Putting A stop to “Criminals funding Criminals”, is a tough row to hoe.
And unfortunately the funding is our tax dollars, freshly printed cash, and our grandkids future tax burden…

    • Gail Combs says:

Once the Thieves and Scoundrels capture a government and the fiat money printing press, people are going to have a devil of a time wresting it away from them. The last time it took a revolution. So far they have had 100 years to become deeply entrenched in every facet of our lives.

  11. Stephen Richards says:

Liars led by a liar; Not an unexpected result then ?

  12. plutarchspam says:

The ocean surface is not much detected by TLT. Its peak sensitivity is about 2 km above the ocean and weighted average elevation observed is about 3 km. http://www.remss.com/measurements/upper-air-temperature

If there’s fraud, its pretending that the ocean is 2-3 km above sea level.

  13. au1corsair says:

Such precision! Reminds me of the polls predicting a landslide for Dewey over Truman in 1948 or the opinion polls used by President Johnson and President Nixon as support for their Vietnam policies. Other than commenting “excess precision in calculations proves that you don’t understand the issue” and creating an image of a fragile ecosystem that can be eradicated with one tobacco cigarette (but medical marijuana is okay) how accurate are the instruments used to plot climate over a significant period and how often are these instruments calibrated?

Figuring temperatures to within a hundredth of a degree when the instruments are calibrated to a tenth of a degree is fraud. Calculating “climate” on only 50 years data is fraud–climate is a matter of centuries.

It’s like weight watching: if you measure yourself every hour, you may find gains or losses of ten pounds in a single day. Going out to hundredths of a pound–what for, exactly? A human may gain an inch or loose an inch in height over a single day–many “healthy weight” tables key on height. Taking the long view means following a weekly or monthly weigh-in because the day to day weight swings will drive one crazy.
