Many total BS articles on the web right now saying the reason for the record Antarctic ice is warming waters. Good Grief the Liberals are mining the 47% Gold. I would love to stick these SOB’s in the antarctic, in the middle of winter, for 5 minutes in their shorts.

They explain the ice extent in Antarctica with things like:
“The overheated bottom of the Antarctic basin is sequestering ice from the top of the glaciers (5 km thick, at minus 10’s of degrees C) and spreading it on the surface of the ocean around the Antarctic continent, causing the impression that the SP is cooling, but it’s not. It’s heating, from below, and 30% of the ice, or possibly 10% or 50%, will melt until … hmmm … let’s say 2200 or maybe even 2100.
It’s totally catastrophic climate change and it is a consensual melting, as explained in 97% of the peer reviewed papers and, of course, caused by CO2.

On the other hand, in real life, the facts are that Antarctica is now reaching ~ 3 years straight above average, in a continuous sequence of records of ice extent … and growing, at a considerably faster rate than the Arctic was warming in the 2000-2007 period! 🙂
We have at present both poles cooling and gaining ice in the last 2 years, and cooling oceans indicating that the trend will probably continue.
And that’s not good.
Exactly what I am afraid of. Warming=Good, Cooling=Not so good. For it is the reason why I left North Dakota. duh….
I once met a person who moved from North Dakota, and ended up living in my neighborhood in PA. He moved because of all the snow out there.
We met while shoveling out from a four-foot snow storm.
Global warming is causing frozen water vapour above the Antarctic to melt. When the melted water vapour hits the still cold earth, it freezes and turns to ice. Global warming is powerful, but it’s not all powerful. Yet.
These people are never happy. Arctic ice hits its cyclic minimum for a few years and they say that’s a bad bad thing. Then Antarctic ice hits record highs and again, that’s a bad bad thing. It’s like they just NEED to be afraid of something.

The amusing thing is how they have to scramble all the time explaining away all cold events. This is actually the main thing that will utterly wreck their belief system.
That, and some more even colder winters. This last three years reminds me very strongly of the decline in temperatures from the balmy early 1960’s to the Arctic cold of the late 1970’s early 1980’s.
It is STILL SUMMER and my trees are already changing color here in the upstate mountains of NY and this is the earliest I have seen this happen in 40 years.

I see this chart every time there is an update and would like to see an overlay of where the thermometers actually are and how much of the data is ‘krigged’ (mathematically estimated) from disparate points. I know the artic temps have a lot of open area that is estimated temperature. Probably also true of Africa, South America and most of the oceans.
