Understanding The Timeline

2001 : World Trade Center attacked  – Americans beg for more surveillance and less freedom.  Patriot Act passed a few weeks later.

2013 : Snowden makes people aware that they are being spied on by their own government. Americans demand less surveillance.

2014 : “ISIS” suddenly appears – Americans beg for more surveillance

Nothing to see here. Move along.

  1. We don’t need more surveillance of Americans at home to know about ISIS. You just needed to turn on the TV or read the newspaper. But as far as I know, ISIS has never appeared at a Democratic fundraiser or the golf course, so our President only just learned about them.

Thanks, Steven aka Tony, for using your talents to benefit society.

There is absolutely no chance these wannabe world tyrants will succeed.

  3. There is a distinction to keep in mind between the policies of Bush and Obama here.

Bush authorized limited, short term surveillance on persons in contact with al Qaeda, based on cell phone numbers and email addresses acquired from equipment taken in Iraq and Afghanistan. This was allowed as long as one end of the transaction was overseas, but if it was to continue more than a few weeks, they had to make a case for probable cause for each person on the list. At any one time, there were a few hundred on this list — and as suspects were dropped off and new ones added with new seizures of captured terrorism equipment, the total affected was less than 10,000 (and apparently about half of that). Several of these were key elements in stopped actions.

Obama took over, had his deputy IG investigate, and reported all these facts. Obama then cranked this up to gather info about all Americans, all the time, if they had any exposure to a searchable medium (Internet, phone, etc.). Effectively, he is treating all of America as suspects and political enemies. This is brand new, and does not resemble anything from the Bush administration. And the scope is fifty thousand times larger. So much so that little of use can be gained from it; note that none of the recent attacks were even warned about by the NSA, despite the deluge of data. We would ignore such warnings anyway because of political correctness.

The PATRIOT act was rather mild; the objections were political, but it was passed nearly unanimously every time. I built the change matrix years ago showing the adds and strikeouts in context; most of it had been there for years.

Obamacare, for example, is far more threatening to personal liberty and privacy.

Now you know how the Russians felt in the old USSR.

    • David A says:

Excellent comment Keith D. However one thought to consider is Bush’s naivety in not understanding the potential abuse of opening the door to such government power abuse.

Likewise, Bush underestimated the capacity of the Arab nations to move towards a classic liberal culture. (Islamism is a brutal central power doctrine that demands war power like response to counter.) The distinction here is the Bush handling of Iraq had a much greater chance of success then that of the current POTUS, who appears to be as capable of enabling international chaos, as he is of fanning the flames of domestic racial animosity.

      • cdquarles says:

But wait, there’s more. The PATRIOT act simply extended to ‘terrorism’ techniques used in the drug war and against ‘organized’ crime. The tools have been there pretty much since the 20s. They were used in the 30s. They were extended in the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s. 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s. The biggest difference, today, is the computer network.

We had fairly good surveylence in 2001, just the CIA and FBI could not communicate (my work was preiferally involved with Army and Air Force Intelligence, so they tell stories…)The Intelligence we needed was primarily about foreign nationals moving in and using the visa system. “Domestic” terrorosm is usually some of these foreign players in the country. We do not need to spy on Americans, just foreigners from places where these terrorist groups are active. This type of activity has always beem legal (observing non resident aliens). Indeed that is what Visas and controlled borders are for.

    • Hugh K says:

But….but…that would be….gasp…profiling. And we all know Obama is against profiling. I can’t exactly remember the exact date the ‘2014 Liar of the Year’ came out against racial profiling. It possibly was the day he was talking about his grandmother and described her as a “typical white person”.

  5. philjourdan says:

Just out of curiosity, which Americans are demanding more surveillance due to ISIS? I have not heard anyone doing it.

  6. David A says:

ISIS is a real threat, just as Islamism is a real threat. Having trouble accepting that? Watch Europe for the next decade. Their decision to import cheep ME labor will bring them to their knees.

However, as Keith and Phil illustrate, there is no need or call for more government power.

      • Gail Combs says:

That is one of the reasons I didn’t vote for the SOB.

We are never given an actual choice. We are only given two pets of the Elite to choice from.

The banksters control the MSM that makes or breaks politicians by controlling the mud slinging.

The Banksters control Congress. According to Senator Dick Durbin (D) “And the banks — hard to believe in a time when we’re facing a banking crisis that many of the banks created — are still the most powerful lobby on Capitol Hill. And they frankly own the place.”

        The Bansters control most corporations:
PAPER:The Network of Global Corporate Control The top 50 of the 147 superconnected companies is listed HERE. What detractors from this paper fail to mention is that mutual funds are the actual controllers of the shares (owner of record and voter of shares) and NOT the people who BUY shares of the mutual fund. It is a neat bit of sleight of hand isn’t it? So the Johnson family, owners of Fidelity et al vote the Monsanto shares and not the pensioners and other little people the dis-info agents hold up to distract us.

The Bansters financed the The Bolshevik Revolution…They created a reign of terror in Russia with our [USA] money…. (do a ‘find’ using the word Russia.)

A wealth banker, Benjamin Philips, financed Karl Marx.

The actual goal of Marx aligns with that of the elite Banksters, a return to a two class feudal system with no annoying middle class challenging their betters.

The bourgeoisie, wherever it has got the upper hand, has put an end to all feudal, patriarchal, idyllic relations. It has pitilessly torn asunder the motley feudal ties that bound man to his ‘natural superiors,’ and has left remaining no other nexus between man and man than naked self-interest, callous ‘cash payment.’ ― Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto

This is why socialist Maurice Strong attacks the Middle class and NOT the elite of whuch he is a member. This is why Al Gore is given a free pass. This is why the UN and the EPA target property rights.

… It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now much more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries. – David Rockefeller at a Bilderberg Group meeting in Baden-Baden, Germany in June 1991

I think without internationalists like you, the international system we have been trying to build, the international system we have today, wouldn’t be here. – UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, at a book signing for “Memoirs”

French Socialist and Former World Trade Director-General Pascal Lamy:

The reality is that, so far, we have largely failed to articulate a clear and compelling vision of why a new global order matters — and where the world should be headed. Half a century ago, those who designed the post-war system — the United Nations, the Bretton Woods system, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) — were deeply influenced by the shared lessons of history.

All had lived through the chaos of the 1930s — when turning inwards led to economic depression, nationalism and war. All, including the defeated powers, agreed that the road to peace lay with building a new international order — and an approach to international relations that questioned the Westphalian, sacrosanct principle of sovereignty

The Bretton Woods system aka as the World Bank and IMF was designed by a Communist/ KGB agent in the US treasury and by a Fabian.

If you can not OWN property you ARE property and the elite want to OWN us. please get that into your head.

Socialism, Communism, the Third Way of Clinton and the London School of Economics are all candy coatings to may us swallow a return to serfdom with a smiling face. (The elite fear another French Revolution and this is their solution.)

        • B says:

Indeed. I am quite aware of what the so-called elite have planned and what they do working towards those ends. The problem with a collective is that someone has to run it. And that’s what all the useful idiots don’t understand. The robber barons, the so-called capitalists, want a collectivist utopia they run. And of course then deserve 99.99999999% of its wealth.

  7. B says:

Apparently Emmanuel Goldstein has a new english language publication that is pushing for acts in the USA. The whole thing is so obviously fake now. It’s such a half-assed crappy production to get people to be afraid. And sadly it’s probably going to work on enough of the population to get what they want. If it doesn’t well, they can escalate.
